Photoshop CC - Generate image assets, inconsistent cropping problem

Hi! I've recently started using the generate image assets feature and I really like it! It's saved a lot of time overall. However I've run into some strange behavior today and I'm wondering if it's user error or some type of bug.

So I turn on generate image assets and name a folder test.png. I throw a shape layer in the test folder and also a completely filled layer underneath it.The generated image is 1000px by 1000px, the canvas size, as expected. However if I turn on a large layer style on the shape and move it so that the layer style is off canvas, the exported .png is only 999 px by 999 px. (I don't seem to have this problem when the style goes outside the canvas only on the left edge.)

I've been having this problem by varying numbers of pixels, and it is an issue when I need all assets to be the same size. I know I can work around the problem by applying a layer mask to the group if I need to, but wanted to know if this was correct behavior for this feature.
