Photoshop CC: Crashing when using 3D

Photoshop CC crashing when I try to use 3D. My hardware passes the sniffer test, but still crashes. I have updated all drivers, but still no luck.system info below.

When does it crash? Are you opening a file, or performing a certain command?

When I try to make a 3d extrusion from a layer, it crashes then.

Also, when I open a 3d file created on a different system, it states that it needs to rasterize the layer since open GL is not enabled. However, it clearly is enabled, as shown in the system info.

Photoshop runs great on the listed system, except for 3d, which will not work at all.

Just let me know if you need additional info.

Well, I was hoping for something clear - like the video card driver.
Unfortunately, that report alone doesn't tell us anything - we'll have to check the WER site for details.

Unfortunately, that did not help. It still crashes each time I try to use any of the 3D features. The faulting module in the windows report is photoshop.exe

Was the text file you linked to intended to be an empty file i.e. does the file's existence alone tell PS to use the previous shader version?

I have spent so many hours trying to figure this out. It seems Photoshop's 3D functionality is much more finicky and less robust than other 3D programs I use. But, it's seamless workflow with my 2d projects makes it something I cannot give up on. I do pay for it, after all. I wish adobe had an online ticketing system.

Yup. Just having that blank text file in the correct location should do the job.

Try this debugging step:

Rename the current file to "save_agf_log.txt" and run Photoshop.

Edit: That should create a log file in your "Documents" folder.

No, the crash happens when I try to create a new 3d extrusion layer or any 3d layer type. It also crashes when I try to open a file I created on another system that has a 3D layer in it.

Unfortunately, this was the only log generated in the crash. Is there a way to have additional logs created?

I am curious; why would simply creating a 3d layer or extrusion cause Photoshop to initialize all the 3d printing checks, etc? Perhaps that is the problem. Is there a way to keep PS from from initializing the 3d print driver when creating a 3d layer? I have no need for 3d printing.

Chris, yes, I have the latest drivers installed. I have 8 gigs of RAM and plan on purchasing and installing 8 more, but do you have more ideas about what I can do in the meantime?

OK. Another question. Answer me this...This problem does not exist with intel processors, so if I get another computer and make sure it does not have anything AMD, then 3d should work, correct?? And is AMD doing anything to help Adobe solve this problem??

We are pretty sure we have a fix, but have to wait for the next release to make it available.

I have the same problem. Im using Windows 8 with AMD Radeon R2.
I have done all updates and photoshop stops working once I click extrude.
It clearly says in Photoshop>Edit>Preferences>Performance that my Graphics Card has all 3d Functions.
I am doing all i can to figure this out. if i do before anyone else, ill share.

I am also having the same problem. I specifically downloaded the program to try out your 3d text abilities and am highly disappointed that I cannot use that function.

I downloaded and installed the newest version of Photoshop CC through the creative cloud application. When I attempted to create a new 3d extrusion from selected layer, The program prompts You are about to create a 3d layer. Would you like to switch to the 3d workspace?

I select yes (I have even tried no) to continue and I get the windows system dialog stating that Adobe Photoshop CC has stopped working. A problem caused the system to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

So is it possible to install the cs6 version with the creative cloud $9.99 a month membership?? Maybe this will make it possible to use 3d.

Finally I'm able to use 3d. I downloaded CS6 and now the 3d and puppet warp work great!! While I was at it I dug out my old Lightroom 4 disk and installed it. The server busy box kept popping up with Lightroom cc and a lot of times it would be 25 or more minutes before I could use the program.
CS6 is saying I am using the trial version even though I have the creative cloud subscription, so I guess I have to deal with that crap in 30 days. But for now I am a happy camper.
I'd like to say thanks to Chris Cox for the timely responses to my questions. I realize I asked some questions that you really couldn't or shouldn't answer. Somebody email me or let me know if this mess gets cleared up, I really like the gradient brush in Lightroom cc. Thanks
