Photoshop CC 2019 freezing on "Save as" dialog

Photoshop totally freezes immediately after opening the "Save as" dialog, file list and buttons "Save" and "Cancel" are not displayed on dialog window.

3 processes - CoreSync.exe, explorer.exe, photoshop.exe gets together about 50% of CPU usage (Intel Core i7 8700-K).

When i kill CoreSync.exe and turn off file synchronization in Creative Cloud app, freezing disappears, file saving works normal.

Photoshop have most stupid file saving of all time ever. For a long time, about 15 years, Adobe applications freezes when some files were opened from network folder a few hours ago, and network folder become unavailable. Adobe says: “Adobe Systems does not provide support for networks and removable media.” Absolutely stupid thing! Now file saving freezes when i try to use Abobe Creative Cloud Sync for file synchronization. Thank you so much, Adobe, for the best network features!

Hello,

Have you tried trashing your preferences and trying again?  I did this just this morning from both Mac and Windows without the slightest hiccup.  What else do you have running?

Thanks,
David

A rare morning without the hiccup? =))

I turned off this stupid file sync, and continue my work. In my tasks i need many custom preferences and i have no desire to have a risk of set up settings by hours after each annoying bugs, updates, bugs cause updates and updates of bugs. Reset preferences, and possibly create even more problems for myself, for what? For the sake of maybe this damned file synchronization will work fine? Most likely will not. What is the next step? "Technical Support strongly recommends working directly on the local hard disk. Transfer files to the network in the Finder or in Windows Explorer"? =)) Already over 20 years, i constantly delete, change, set up again preferences and trying again. In most cases this does not solve problems, most problems are usually solved after 3 - 5 Adobe fixes of eaсh version. =) First release versions are generally unsuitable for normal work. Enterprise customers do beta testing by subscription =))

I had running only Photoshop and Adobe Creative Cloud app with /Creative Cloud Files/ folder sync enabled, and almost immediately after i place some files in folder, PS file saving dialog starts to freeze. Two applications - image editor and file sync app. Save window just could not load, waiting for folder sync occurs. Why folder synchronization process in general can somehow influence the saving of files in Photoshop, why PS settings somehow related to folder synchronization, how much garbage is written in PS settings? For many years, different things, some second and third priority tasks, constantly cause failures when Photoshop saving files.

Adobe support always advise to delete settings in any possible case. "Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift... Using the keyboard shortcut, preference files for custom shortcuts, workspaces, and color settings will also be reset to default". Custom shortcuts, workspaces, why? Throw the baby out with the bathwater. Or if this permanent reset is considered normal, then why is there no special utility for reset and backup prefs? =))

Everywhere in user guides, for any reason - "Reset preferences", "Reset preferences", "Reset preferences", it's crazy. Of course, it solve some local problems, but it's a global problem itself. Problems like endless failures in settings or like 15 years freezes of all PS versions in any various networks, appears constantly. Maybe Adobe will try to make something for these problems can no longer arise? Try to store user settings more separately from all other falling freezing garbage? Try to turn file saving into the most important process, which will not be affected by 100 000 different factors, like "can't access recent file, closed four hours ago, on a network"?

You're having a problem with your installation that most people are not experiencing.  That strongly implies that there's something usual about your setup, components, workflow, OR you're unlucky.

Unlucky?  Yeah, unlucky.  File corruption is a real thing.  It has nothing to do with the software (usually) but rather actual, physical variations, from dust in your machine to minor spikes in your power supply, to molecular defects on your hard drive or in your registers.  There are a million reasons why a file can become corrupt and the files that get the most use are most at risk.  Oh, hey, you know, minor, transient NETWORK INSTABILITIES are high on that list of file corruption causes...just saying.  Since your PS prefs file is written to while you're using Photoshop, which is typically in use continuously for long periods of time AND you're working over a network AND you're encountering other problems, well, that's a trifecta right there.  THAT is why we ask you to clear your preferences file -- it's the most likely victim of data corruption and the easiest to fix.

You don't want to clear it?  Sure, make a back up and remove it manually.  Whatever.  But diagnostically, that's the first step.  That's the reason that there is, specifically, a shortcut to press at launch to clear your prefs (among a dozen other things it does).  It's almost like it's "normal" to do this.

Thanks,
David

OMG I'm tired of saying it... I don't have problem with my installations. All the time, about 20 years... On different and default prefs, different machines, different networks, different companies in different cities, photoshop constantly hangs when someone turns off the computer from which files were opened and closed a few hours ago. You can try it at home. And problems not only with network files, local folders of recently closed files become locked, etc.

All this years i could turn off network connection or unplug cable for a second, and Photoshop stops freezes. Now it start freeze again when connection restores.

"transient NETWORK INSTABILITIES are high on that list of file corruption causes" - if some application constantly try to access multiple unnesessary resent, saved and closed long time ago, moved, renamed, deleted files, it exactly will cause multiple NETWORK INSTABILITIES and disk errors.
All that Adobe tried to do with it - told people: "don't work with network and removable drives", maybe that’s probably why most people either don’t have this problem,  as you think,  or,  if have, they doing something wrong?

Probably, most people not use and don't want to use network files, corporate networks, NAS storages, etc, only unhappy me try to use it... Adobe forbade people to use very important and necessary capabilities, depriving them normal using of the entire network infrastructure. you think, most people don’t have problem because they don’t use network files, but that’s exactly what the problem is,  people can't normal use network files! Maybe only unlucky me everytime doing something wrong with my files, and for rare bad luck i can do it only in Photoshop. it's just i close my files wrong or something like that. Or maybe somebody should try to stop abusing unhappy people and try to understand and fix something?

Maybe, at least, just add some necessary options or functions? =)))
"☐ Create temporary local copies before opening network files"
"☐ Open network files in different process"
"☐ Create separate caches for network files".
"File -> Save & Close & Purge all related & Delete temp & Clear from Recent & Forever forget and Never access anymore"

I think, many people need it, more than "Convert shape or text to frame". Folder sharing, it's easy.  All other applications work normally with network files, file sizes are larger than in Photoshop, 10, 100 times, and there are no such problems at all! For sure at least 15 years, from CS4, these endless stupid problems only in Photoshop... "Adobe Systems does not provide support for networks" Now collaborative editing is current trend...

About preferences:
it will be good to keep "user defined prefs" separate from the rest continuously written data in PS prefs"
Constantly making back up of this file, addicted to accumulating errors, is not the best way. Need a "Save" button in prefs, same as color settings, menus...  And some script, utility or button (like in Keyboard shortcuts) to summarize all custom user settings to text.  it’s generally strange why there is no such option. Possible to write changes in prefs to the history log, but current prefs cannot be saved.

In general, Photoshop have some set of strange logs and different panels that are not completely interconnected with each other and with anything else.  Measurement log, with data that cannot be  attached to image. Something like vector layers with dimensions lines and values, or guidelines, to make screenshots with dimensions. No, in result we have only table with list of dimensions taken from nowhere. Ruler tool without displaying values. Selection tools show values near the cursor, but ruler tool show nothing. Strange tool. Detailed history log, that can be saved  in text and image metadata, in which not everything is written, for example, coordinates of brush (it possible in actions). It has nothing to do with the log in the history panel. Absolutely no values are displayed in history panel, just "Levels" "Blending change" etc. Change for what? Its impossible to save this list in any way. Action palette, which can not be connected with history. When applying and editing the action if return to some place in the history, it is very difficult to understand which position it is in the action. And we can only dreaming about convert history into actions. There are 2 history logs, and one of them seems could be easily converted into actions. But it impossible without importing/exporting actions into some text or table format. As a result, we have a lot of different information, that very difficult to use somehow. All these logs and panels seems like been created by different people for some of their own tasks, that are not connected to each other. Dear developers, please try to somehow bring it all together, and Photoshop will get very useful new features. if possible to convert shapes and text to frames, probably should be also possible convert history to actions? =)

Hi M.A.Denis,

Just a thought, but if Photoshop is "hanging" when you connect the network, could it be that Photoshop is actually downloading/uploading/or otherwise synching files in the background for you?  I know when I first install on a new machine, I often have an initial performance lag as all my CC files and resources get copied from the cloud to my machine in the background.  Perhaps this is what's going on and your machine is simply getting bogged down as a result?

Just a thought,
David

Hi m.a.denis,

I'm not seeing any contacts with support under your account. What would be helpful is to collect the logs then contact support: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html
