Photoshop CC 2018: Text layer default selecting to layer mask

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone else is running into this issue with CC 18 it happens on both Windows and Mac. When selecting a text layer with a layer mask it is by default selecting to the layer mask instead of the text. Even when physically clicking the "T" icon on the layer from another layer it is initially focusing on the layer mask.

A big problem that I run into is that when moving at a fast pace and you select the layer to change the color of the text, since by default it selects the layer mask, when you go to change the color it will ultimately change the opacity which is obviously extremely frustrating.

If you create an object or anything else and add a layer mask it will work correctly and focus on the object and not the layer mask.

Hey Chris,

I am not seeing this and have heard no reports.  I'm wondering if there's an issue with your setup.  Odd.  Do you have Auto-Select enabled for Layers?

Thanks,
David

Hey David,

Thanks for the reply, I don't have Auto-Select Enabled.

I'm also having this issue on Mac. The layer when clicked always defaults to the Layer Mask. The "T" icon has to be selected manually each time.

Here's a Quick Video so you can see what I'm talking about a little better.

It's happening here as well. I have to click twice with the type tool after I've added a mask to the type, then clicked away, to target the type itself. It doesn't matter if Auto-Select Layer is enabled or not. Mac running El Cap and 2018.

I contacted support before and they were seeing the same issue but had no answer. Anything on this?
