When using any tool, the size of the tool isn't displayed, only cross hairs or a cursor with a tool icon.

Are you saying that when you use a tool that uses a brush tip, you're not able to see the size of the brush tip? Have you checked that you don't have the caps lock key on, and that under Cursors in Preferences you've enabled what you want to see for those tools that have brush tips? For all other tools, you don't need to see the size of the tool because it doesn't vary in user-defined size—such as the Move tool or the Lasso tool —or in the case of the eyedropper, you select from the Options bar the area in pixels you want to sample.

Forgive me if my response is too basic for you, but with so little information, it's difficult to know exactly what your problem is.

Your comment was astute.  Although I pursued the same thinking of checking the setting for Cursors in Preferences, I was satisfied that they were correct (and unchanged), since they showed the selection to be "Standard."  After reading your suggestion, I returned there and changed them to "Precise," and, ah, that corrected the problem.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my plea.
