Hello everybody, I've just updated my Photoshop and Lightroom to CC 2018, Lightroom seems to work correctly (even if I can't find some old feature, might need to dig a bit deeper), but Photoshop is just giving me problems over problems.
When I try to "Edit" a photo firstly adjusted in Lightroom, it shows just a black picture, or the transparent background:

As you can clearly see from the layers, the image looks alright there.
This happen even if I try to manually open the image from Photoshop, or if I try to edit the RAW picture from Photoshop and then edit it (it let me edit the RAW picture but, once opened, it just shows a black picture or the transparent background).
The same problem happens if I try to open a simple JPG or PNG image.
In the homepage of Photoshop I can see the images as they should be:

I've already tried to remove the "Use graphic processor" from the preferences and restart Photoshop, but it didn't change the result.
I've even tried by uninstalling it and reinstalling it, still without success.
Any suggestion please?
Thank you all

Hi Dome,
Sorry you're having trouble with your installation of Photoshop. Try resetting your preferences:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html
Video tutorial demonstrating how to reset preferences back to default here (starts at 5:05): http://video.tv.adobe.com/v/6932/
Let me know if that helps.
Regards,
Hannah

I'm having the same problem. Resetting preferences did not work. Why is the layer transparent (or sometimes black) when I open a jpg?

I’ve reinstalled PS, and even formatted the laptop and reinstalled windows and PS, now it works for few pictures (8) and then and then the problem appears again... a new update has been pushed out today but won’t be able to test it till next week.

I just got help from Adobe. Turns out it was a graphics driver update that was needed. Opens perfectly now.

so what are the steps to update the graphics driver?

You can find what graphics card you have by opening Control Panel and clicking on Device Manager. Your graphics card is listed under Display adapter. Go to the website for your computer (and/or your graphics card in your computer) to search for driver updates or search online, then download and install them. I have Dell and they have a link for driver updates.

I’ll try and see if there is any update for the graphic card too at this point

I had the same problem (or it sounds like it, from all these descriptions), but it happened right after Windows 10 installed a large update. Resetting preferences in Photoshop didn't help. Installing a graphics driver update didn't help. What finally did it for me was going into Photoshop preferences, and under Performance, unchecking "Use Graphics Processor." I'm waiting to see what unintended consequences this fix has, but so far, it's working well enough--I can see and edit my images again.

This (unchecking "Use Graphics Processor") also worked for me. Double "Whew".

I just updated the amount of RAM PS could use -- moved it from 62% up to 72% and now a bit better. This never happened with prior PS's to CC. This was via PS Preferences.

Mine was so odd.. I would open the picture and what appeared was a pixelated image of the current image I was trying to open and past photos I was working on.
I ended up updating photoshop2018 through the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app and it's now fine.

I'm having the same problem. It's transparent sometimes, all black others. The image looks just fine in the layers panel. This is very frustrating; my graphics drivers are up to date.

Did you try unchecking Use Graphics Processor, and you're getting these useless previews? Eventually, our cards stop being supported, so even if our drivers are as new as it gets for that version, the card itself might not be.
And/or have you tried deleting Preferences (see the link for instructions further up this thread from Hannah Nicollet). Are you on the latest PS version? If you've answered yes to all these and no luck, it will help Adobe Staff figure out what's going on if you post more information about your system, graphics card, and OS.

It's a VERY COMMON PS issue that Adobe introduced. Sad to say. I fixed mine my updating PS's preferences, using over 70% of RAM now. Previously was just 60% and about 35% of the images I clocked on in Bridge showed up all black in PS. It's been going on for nearly a year. Now solved.

Hi Ken,
It's solved now simply by allocating more RAM to Photoshop in Preferences?

YES -- Preferences--- Performance. I moved the slider over to above 70%. Let me check. Yes, mine is at 73%. Seems to have fixed it. :)

Ok, same issue. Think it was a windows update. My issue is as follows. I have an Intel(R) HD Graphics 515 on the board card. If I uncheck Use Graphics Processer it looks normal but then I cannot use any of the filters. Thoughts?
