Photoshop CC 2017 won't open files of any type. Tried reinstalling and running the Adobe Creative Cloud cleaner tool

I just bought a subscription to the Photography CC package and tried installing Lightroom and Photoshop. Lightroom appears to be working properly however I can't seem to get Photoshop working. I've unistalled and reinstalled it twice now, and I ran the CC Cleaner tool after the second uninstall after uninstalling both Lightroom and Photoshop.

I have also tried running Photoshop as am Admin as well as selecting Photoshop when right-clicking on a file and choosing it through the "Open With" options.

So far nothing seems to work. I'm hoping someone can give me a hand.

Hi Patrick,

You're running Windows, right?  Which version?  What happens when you try to open these files?  What does Open With report back?  Are you just not seeing PS in the list of options for Open With?  What about when PS is launched?  Can you click Open and choose the file?

Hi David,

Thank you for the reply.

1)I'm running Windows 10 Home edition with the latest update installed.
2)When I click on a file with "Open" I'm prompted to select (for example) the image I wish to open. Once I select the image and hit the "Open" button the window closes and nothing opens.
3)Using right-click "Open With" bring the Photoshop window into focus, but again, nothing opens.
4)PS is appearing in the list of software to open with, it just doesn't succeed in opening the image as mentioned in 3)
5)There is no difference between trying to open a file when PS is launched or closed. Nor does opening the file through PS work.

I hope my answers were clear. Thanks for your help :)

I think I figured out my problem.

I think Photoshop was defaulting to using my PC's Intel graphics processor. I've since disabled that GP and now Photoshop is forced to use my Radeon GP. This seems to have fixed the issue.

Although as soon as I re enable that driver Photoshop stops working again. Which means I can't have both my monitors work AND have Photoshop work at the same time.

Is there anyway to fix this newly discovered problem?

In some cases, drivers can conflict with one another.

Some other things to try:

Make sure your discreet Radeon graphics driver is up to date 
Assign the High Performance graphics card to Photoshop rather than Integrated Graphics or Power Saving graphics card.

If you cannot open any file or cannot create a new one in Photoshop CC 2017 please try this workaround

Under Preferences > General
deactivate option 'Show "Start" workspace when no documents are open'
activate 'Show "Recent files" workspace when opening a file'
activate 'Use legacy "New document" interface'

and restart Photoshop.

 Please write a short feedback if these steps solved the problem with opening or creating a new document.

Hi,

I am having the same issue: Photoshop CC starts, menus are available, but when selecting a file to be opened, it seems to start loading something, and then stops as if no task was run.
I am able to create new files and work veeeeeeeeryyyyyy slooooowlyyyyyy on them, saving/exporting them, but when trying to re-open them, nothing!

The issue is happening on a Dell laptop running a Win 7-64bits Enterprise, Core i7, 16Go RAM, with _only_ an Intel HD Graphics 530 graphical card.
Photoshop used to run fine at the beginning. Then, for a few months, I haven't been using it, and in the meantime there seems to have been some drivers auto-update from the IT of my company (can't figure it out exactly).
I re-installed Photoshop and the latest Intel Graphics driver (I once had the same issue with Illustrator, and the re-install process solved the problem)... but it won't change a thing.

@dominik_kietla, I tried your workaround... and now Photoshop crashes at start T_T
Below is the dump I could get (in French) :
"Exception non gérée à 0x000007FE8A3470C0 (ig9icd64.dll) dans Photoshop.exe : 0xC0000005 : Violation d'accès lors de la lecture de l'emplacement 0x0000000000000028."*
(* something like "Unhandled exception... Access violation when reading location...")

I came up with a (temporary) solution:

Writing my problem down gave me an idea: Since now, when I used to remove+reinstall the Intel Graphics driver, my laptop was always plugged to my desk dock (used to provide me with ethernet lan access and (!) multi-screen display). I noticed that, as a logical consequence, after the PC restart, Windows (and/or my company IT) also automatically reinstalled the desk dock drivers as it was plugged in. And this happens everytime I try to install the latest graphic driver. Maybe that was the cause of the problem...
But when I try to keep things simple to avoid third-part-interference-install (= same procedure as before but with no exotic hardware plugged in), Intel Graphics gets the latest update... and nothing else. After that, Photoshop runs like a charm :)

Only problem: I have to run wi-fi even at the office (lower bandwidth)... and I cannot use my multi-screen (very PITA when you have to make graphic design on a 13" display). But whatever: I can run Photoshop now!

Todo: find a stable-compatible Dell-dock-Intel-graphics driver.

UPDATE: my Photoshop keeps being unstable. It crashes randomly. It might be something else...

Howdy Jenny,

Are you get a crash log?  Could you post the results here?

Also, have you tried clearing your preferences on launch?  To do so, hold down CNTRL+SHIFT+ALT while launching the app.  You'll be presented with a dialog asking if you want to "Delete your Adobe preferences file" -- click Yes.

Hi David,

On the upside, clearing the preferences meant it started opening without crash again. It still won't open any files, though.

I found a webpage talking about how to get a crash log, but so far I haven't figured out which log it might need. (There are some from the other day when it was still crashing, but that doesn't seem relevant to the file opening issue.)

Alternative temporary solutions (show must go on!):

I had several issues with my PC, mostly due to install/uninstall/re-install several environments to work on misc projects. Then, I came back to need to use Photoshop (and eventually Illustrator). Then, it crashed again. While I was sending crash tickets to Adobe support, I came across this solution (found on https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2230781 ) :

Block access to Adobe Photoshop CC ####\Required\Plug-ins\Spaces folder -> rename it as "~Spaces", for example.

Somehow, there seems to be some conflict with some DLL. It is also suggested to rename the LavasoftTcpService64.dll if you have some.

Alternatively, I also managed to use an older version (CS6) without tweaking anything. It has less features (T_T) but does not conflict with my company drivers automatically force-updated.
