Photoshop CC 2017: Long font name in character panel is overwritten with dots

The font name text field in Character Panel masks overflowed characters with '...'.
But this dots overwrites the original font name text.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Select long named font in font name list box.
  2. Focus the font name text field.
  3. Copy text.
  4. Paste text anywhere.
  5. Masked text is pasted.
Expected results: The original font name is pasted.

I think the original font name should be restored when the focus comes on.
I'm doing copy-paste because Japanese font name is generally too long and too complex.
I hope this behavior will be improved.

Howdy Poomo,

What you're seeing is the correct behavior.

For a number of reasons, the Font Name text box is limited to 25 characters.  So, when we parse the name of a font, if the length of the name is greater than 25, we shave off the last three characters, turn them into an ellipses (...) to indicate a truncation, and we display the first 22 characters with the ... in the dialog box.  Once the name is in the dialog box, it's no longer really "connected" to the name of the font on the hard drive -- what's displayed is for humans, not the application.  The text string is its own entity at that point.  So when you select it and paste it into a text layer, the correct behavior is to leave the ... as that's literally what you selected.

Does that make sense?
