Photoshop CC 2015: Unresponsive, laggy, slow, super laggy scrolling via mouse wheel on Windows

Next Problem!

Since our update to Photoshop CC 2015 we are noticing much more problems:

1. Photoshop is really laggy and unresponsive, especially when we are working with bigger files. We are using HP Z820 Workstations with Quaddro 4000, 32GB Ram, Dual Xeon CPU, fast samsung SSD, win 8.1. GFX drivers are up to date and hardware wise there should be no problem.

2. Scrolling via mouse wheel is impossible, because its so laggy that we should have to wait up to 1 minute until Photoshop stops scrolling.

Help would be nice.
Working this way is really frustrating :/

I have had the same problem and purchased a new laptop:

I7 7th gen 2.8Ghz
48Gb RAM DDR4 2400Mhz
GTX1070 8Gb DDR 5
And...

Same problem.

But, when I was checking the use of memory to see if there was any process slowing in down, I fond that, if i dont use Photoshop at full screen (even resizing the window to almost full screen) it works perfect.

I don't know why this happens, but if it works...

Hope to have helped you

You fricking aren't kidding! I'm getting major crashes on Yosemite on Mac and if I don't report it PS doesn't recover the file. Worse yet, when I continued to save often after the crashes I crashed and didn't report and lost hours worth of work that I had multiple saves on?!! What the H is that?!

Photoshop runs really slowly and lags tremendously, plus I can't use my arrow keys to move the text cursor when using the text tool. This is how we make a living and we can't have our tools messed around with like this. Trust in a company is very important, and I trust Adobe will get this fixed, but it's very surprising that CC2015 has so many issues.

First, go install the CC 2015.0.1 update.
If you have trouble after that, we'll need a lot more information to determine why your system is running slowly.

Charles, this sounds like a driver problem of your graphicscard to me. If you move the text cursor and start typing, is the position where the text is added different? If this is happening try to update your drivers and as Chris wrote update PS to the newest version. The last update fixed much on the performance side :)

I have the same issues, running on Windows 7 with all the latest updates (Windows and Photoshop). Additionally (I'm not sure if this is related), if I leave the application idle for a length of time (15-30 minutes +), when I come back to it, the visible open document is frozen. I can select tools, layers, etc., and even scroll (the scroll bars move), albeit with some lag, but the actual document doesn't move. It remains frozen at whatever magification/scroll location I'd left it at. Selecting / hiding / editing layers has no visible effect, despite the layer / palette tools behaving (very slowly) as normal. This doesn't appear to be latency. Using the application is extremely slow, but the open document will never visibly update.

I'll probably install the previous version until the speed/freeze issues are resolved.

The last two updates fixed our performance problems. We think speed is not 100% as fast as in PS 2014, but working with this version is much more fun, now. The next weeks will show us if we will get any problems like before.

Thx for the update, Chris :)

I'm on Windows 8.1 and also get bad delays and stuttering with cc2015.

Latest version doesnt change a thing. Have to restart the whole programm after an hour or so, because everything need around 2-3 seconds to respond.

I have these problems since I upgraded to ps cc2015 and it's a shame adobe doesn't fix performance problems, before adding new toy additions.

Adobe did fix the known performance issues in the 2015.0.1 update.

But a handful of users are seeing other performance issues. So far we have traced most of them to third party plugins (like font managers), corrupt font files, and bugs in other third party software (like some firewalls and antivirus software).

We haven't ignored anything - we have fixed all the problems that we have seen. The known performance issues were fixed in the 2015.0.1 update. I also have this problem of slugghishness using the mouse wheel ..... I didn't know it could be related to fonts problem .... how do I check that ? It's been now six months of frustration and Adobe hasn't solved our problem. OK, Adobe solved *some* problems, but that is not enough: every other software I have is working perfectly. To me, it looks like Adobe doesn't even WANT to solve the problem, or else they would be eager to ask me and others some elements of our configuration, to detect patterns, similarities, .....

I have the same problem and spent about an hour on the phone with Adobe Tech.
They told me it was me video card but that does not seem to be the problem.
PS does the same thing even though I upgraded to a new video card:
( EVGA GeForce GT 740 4GB GDDR5 ).
It seems that Adobe has problems with PS 2015 CC and are in denial.
I am going to see if I can go back to PS 2014 which ran like a fine tuned clock.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
This is the only program I have trouble with in Windows 10.

We pay a lot for this. And yes, it is A LOT. If photoshop and the rest of the family worked like it should, and bugs got corrected fast with almost weekly updates, I would say that "We don't pay enough". But this gets to me. ;(

There was a problem drawing rulers in CC 2015.0.0, but that was fixed in 2015.0.1. Beyond that, we haven't seen any such problem without an obvious third party cause (plugins, utilities, extension panels, etc.).

I just downloaded Photoshop CC 2015 on a trial basis on my brand new Dell laptop (Inspiron 15 7000 Series). This is the version:

Adobe Photoshop Version: 2015.0.1 20150722.r.168 2015/07/22:23:59:59 CL 1032107 x64

When I open a CR2 file, the photo quickly opens in Camera Raw. However, when I click OK, the entire image does not appear in PS. Instead, I get 50% of my image and 50% PS "layer". Strangely enough, when I scroll over the "layer" portions, those parts of the image start to appear. Only after I've scrolled over the entire image does it fully open.

Is there a solution for this? Does this sound familiar to anyone? I obviously can't purchase this product with this type of issue.

Install the Camera Raw update, and if it still happens: disable GPU usage in Camera Raw to avoid the problem.

You might be seeing a video card driver bug (which just looks like the known ACR issue). Updating the video card driver from the GPU maker's website (not Microsoft or a system builder) usually solves those.

There is a 2-3 second lag at most things I do in CC 2015, so I have returned to my old CS2 which works fine. But I have paid for a full year, so either I get a reimbursement or something that will make CC 2015 work again.

I have tried all sorts of things that will optimize PS. Here is my info:

Adobe Photoshop version: 2015.0.1 20150722.r.168 2015/07/22:23:59:59 CL 1032107 x64

Photoshop is not showing such delays for the vast majority of users. So there is something about your system causing the delays. This could be third party plugins or extension panels, driver software, other applications or utilities, hardware issues (like bad disk connections), or even malware on the system.

Unfortunately, we don't know the details of your system to help you figure out what is causing delays on your particular system.

The first troubleshooting step would be to update your video card drivers from the GPU maker's website.
Next would be disabling all third party plugins and extension panels.
Then try exiting other applications and utility programs.

Chris, would you check the performance of Photoshop, when the library panel is opened. We are noticing delays caused by this panel on every maschine/system at work!

This delay/lag goes away if the library panel is visible, but minimized to the icon or closed. For us all the other problems are fixed by the latest updates, but we are using the library quite often, so this is really anoying :/

> The last best PS.>

That's in the eye of the beholder. I spend all day in PS, still on an old, slow 2009 Mac Pro. It isn't a speed demon, no. It is pretty darned stable for me, but I'm not on High Sierra. However, here's a list of just a few reasons I don't go back to CS6 (which had bugs and everyone at its release complained was too slow compared to earlier versions, as they have since I started with PS5):

Face Aware Liquify
Font list, font search, font identify
New Blurs, path and spin
Select Focus Area
Major improvements in Content Aware Features with color blending
Color Lookup Table export
Perspective Warp
Linked Smart Objects
Generate Image Assets
Camera Shake Reduction
Image Resize-Preserving details, two significant upgrades
Adobe Camera Raw as PS filter
Upright - Lens Corrections
Live Shapes
New Brush organization, symmetry painting, brush smoothing

These don't begin to cover all of the major features many people use frequently, nor all of the improvements to older features that have been made. And it doesn't touch on Camera Raw improvements.

Perfect? Not hardly. Even many of these features haven't been perfect, as well all know now with the odd Brush Smoothing bug introduced, or the fact that Shake Reduction hasn't been enhanced since its introduction. Buggy?  Always. Every release. I always keep the last version installed in case I need it.

Slow? Depends. My 2009 Mac Pro on El Capitan, with only 16GB RAM and only 2GB VRAM, slows down when I am working with a file that has 60+ layers, 3/4 of which have masks as well, and I'm still dragging stuff in, out, transforming, painting, deleting, and doing it all over and over again, and my file is 1GB - 2GB. Sometimes the best thing I can do is save the file and restart PS to get clear again. I really hate the way my Wacom cursor will stick to interface elements when I scroll and release, or start flickering. I find occasionally I'm waiting on a save from a Smart Object edit back to the main document for so long, my fingernails have grown out before its done. Same with Content Aware Scale. . .

But I do use other apps, such as Affinity, and compare them to PS.  I like the way Affinity handles some features with a better interface and performance than PS. I don't like that it doesn't have enough of the features I need that PS does have. And I don't like the way it crashes almost every time I use it, which is not nearly as extensive or intensive as my use of PS—which isn't crashing or freezing hardly at all, knock on wood. So. . . I know plenty of people for whom CS6 is enough. No reason they should upgrade as long as they can run it. But not me. I don't agree that CS6 was the last best PS. I think we haven't yet seen the last best PS. At least, I definitely hope not.

Downgrading to CC was not enough. I had to return to my old CS2. A file in CC or later was twice (and incredibly slow) as heavy as in CS2 (which flies)

Have the same thoughts. I hope this situation resolves one or other way quickly. Photoshop was great tool for long now. And its painful to drown together with it slowly. It's my prime work tool for 10 years.

I know its unrelated to windows, but I have 7 MacPRO's. All 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, SSD, 64-32 RAM Dual AMD D700 or D500. And performance is so much worse than on windows.

While Photoshop stutters and crawls it barely uses 1 core and fraction of 1 video card. My system is almost on complete idle wile I'm waiting to turn on/off the layer visibility in fairly simple file for 20 sec. And while trying to solve this UI lag problem all I get is Chris telling that PROBABLY my drivers are bad, its ONLY me having this problem but no one else does...

"Photoshop CC is running quite well for most users - the same speed as previous versions, sometimes faster.
If you have performance problems on your system, then you will have to tell us more about your system so we can help you figure out what is wrong with your system."

Is it, Chris? Is it really running quite well for most users? Is it?
There's nothing wrong with my video drivers. I'm on a brand new iMac i7 with 64Gb of ram and the whole CC2015 suite is slow and laggy. Same goes for my MacBook Pro, i7, with 16Gb or ram. CC2014 was fine, and stable. CS6 was faster, and stable.

The fact that I have to force-quit the Creative Cloud app pretty frequently because it locks up and won't let me launch Adobe apps -- and that plenty of other people are experiencing the same, on brand new systems, should be some indication that maybe, Just MAYBE, it's a problem with CC and not everyone's faulty video cards.

I'll say this again, because I've said it before... QuarkXpress used to have a lock on the DTP market when PageMaker was an "also ran". Quark lost their market because they got arrogant.  Adobe is on a fast track for doing the same thing.
