Photoshop CC 2014: Crop tool program error

I just had this error too, though I've never seen it before. PS CC 2014 on Win 7 x64. A small document, 3 layers, 2 with layer masks. One of the layers was positioned with content outside the canvas.

I clicked the crop tool to expand the canvas, and got this error. After clicking OK, the crop tool was activated and working as normal (i.e. the error didn't actually affect anything other than having to click OK on it).

The line in the error log from this event is:
2014:11:06 14:17:18 : ..\..\sources\ToolHUD.cpp : 2240 : REQUIRE failed

I didn't check the memory at the time of the error, but checking it now, it seems there should have been plenty free.

I have the graphics acceleration option ticked in PS' options, and was optimising some images in a separate program (FileOptimizer) at the time of the error. I don't think my graphics card has much RAM, so possibly FileOptimizer was also using the card and this meant there wasn't enough graphics card RAM left for PS?

Note: This conversation was created from a reply on: Photoshop CS6: Could not use the crop tool because of a program error (Win).

That error means that internally the crop tool failed to set things up correctly for the onscreen preview to work.

We need to get the exact steps and document information to reproduce the error.

What troubleshooting am I supposed to try? there is nothing anywhere about this error notice although there are various posts requesting a fix for
"Could not use xxxx tool because of program error"
Mine began from importing an action so am I supposed to reboot the actions palette/tool - how do I do that seeing as it's not a tool on the toolbar

DId you check the PSErrorLog.txt file?
And what exact steps produce the error?

No.
If CS6 is stored in the creative cloud how can it be crashing? Am I supposed to uninstall and reinstall so that it will run this action without giving cryptic errors?

I provided links to troubleshooting documentation in my reply earlier. You should not have to uninstall and reinstall. What version of Photoshop are you running? CS6 is not 'stored in the creative cloud' - it is an application that runs locally on your computer. Are you on Windows or Macintosh? It would help to know the exact OS you're running on, and the exact version of Photoshop that you are running.

I get the same line tool error when trying to load an action. Was there ever a fix for this issue? I am running CC on OS X 10.10.2

Brandon, first, make sure Photoshop is Up-To-Date: http://adobe.ly/PS-Up-To-Date

Can you import the action without error anywhere else? Can you post the action you're having trouble with? (Creative Cloud or dropbox and post a URL here)

Getting same error message with CS6 64 Bit Photoshop Win8.  ???  Photoshop needs an update so I'm doing that now.  If that fails to solve the problem I'll try installing Photoshop 32 bit and see what happens.  I am using a laptop that is not GL graphics.  Although I don't see why that should be causing problems with the crop tool. I am NOT on CC --  I have my own discs for Production Premium.
