Photoshop/Bridge: I used periods in the text batch rename and now the files cannot be opened. Please Help!

I used a period in a file name as I renamed the batch "Sue.Smith" and now I can't open the files.  I can't figure out how to change them back.

If you are on a Mac buy a copy of "A better finder rename" <http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/> and use it to remove / replace the period in the file name.
This little utility is the best utility I have ever purchased (regularly updated, well supported, and cheap) and I often us it to add personal names to files and to remove errors such as spaces or double underscores.
If you are on a PC I'm sure a google will find a suitable windows utility.

Bridge should be able to fix this.
