Hi, I decided to try Photoshop CC and Lightroom before I pay. During editing my pictures (18mp raw) I've been alerted that not enough memory (Windows 7 32, RAM 4 Gb, available 3, swap file awailable). The error alerts in Lightroom when i export the edited images and in Photoshop when I accept changes in external filters (Authentech Perfectlyclear and some other). My CPU supports 64x instructions and the laptop might be upgraded up to 8 Gb RAM. Do you recommend to install 64x Windows and/or extend the RAM? What are the most preferable technical requirements to use the PS and LR?

Dell Vostro 3700
CPU Core i-5
RAM 4 GB (2 slots up to 4 Gb each)
Graphics discrete 512 or 1024 Mb

First, you MUST have a swapfile to use windows effectively. Otherwise you're trying to cram everything into your installed RAM and can't page anything out. So go fix that ASAP.

i tried two ways of setting up the swap: system managed size and fixed (different ammounts). the problem remains.

Chris, what volume should i assign to the page file if i have 8 gb RAM onboard? i analyzed the peaks, the biggest was when i loaded 10 raws to merge for hdr, the program showed me 8,5 gb used. if i assign 4 gb for a page file, will this be enough?

The amount of RAM doesn't matter - you need a paging file for the OS to work correctly. The paging file should be about twice your installed RAM. On Windows you can assign it to any local volume with enough free space. On MacOS it is normally on the OS/boot volume, and difficult to assign to another volume.

64 bit windows would help a bit, because it allows for a larger address space.

But what version of ACR are you using? Have you installed all the updates?

I upgraded the memory, increased up to 8 gb. Windows 7 x64. I installed all the updates (the latest Camera Raw). No in Photoshop and Lightroom I have no alerts that there's not enough memory.
