Photoshop 7: Graphic Pen Filter Issues

Hi. I'm using Photoshop 7. When using the Graphic Pen filter I cannot get adjustments in Brightness/Contrast to stick. I can preview my manual adjustments but when I click "OK" to make my change permanent and close the dialogue box my adjustments disappear and the photo reverts to its unchanged state. What am I doing wrong? Why will it preview a change in brightness/contrast but not save it?

Photoshop 7 was released in 2002, so I wonder if that is really the version you use.
Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Layers, Channels, Options Bar, ...) visible?

I can't post a screenshot right now but I can confirm that I really am using Photoshop 7. I have already reset the preferences back to their factory defaults in case that was causing the problem. I cannot uninstall and reinstall because I no longer have the disc. It was installed on my desktop about 7 or 8 years ago. Yes, my computer is that old and I'm running Windows Vista.
