Photoshop: How do I add more than one 3D object to a scene without them intersecting?

Could anyone help me PLEASE - I have searched and searched in various tutorials for answer and have searched through Adobe's 3D pages - can find no answer.  I created a new doc added a preset Sphere.....then tried to add a ring to that scene.  Every time - over and over and over, the Ring always opens inside the Sphere.  I always make sure the Sphere is NOT selected when I start, but it doesn't matter.  It opens inside the Sphere no matter where I start.

This one problem is preventing me from continuing.  Can anyone help?

Thank to anyone out there who maybe could respond.

Create a new layer for each object. Then they won't intersect with each other. You'll need to move them into position, but that's pretty easy. Hope that gets you started.
