Photoshop 21.1: Many new bugs with Windows Ink API and Wacom tablets

Hello,

since the latest update forced me to use Windows Ink instead of WinTab, many new bugs regarding my Wacom tablet have turned up. Here are some that I noticed (note that those did not occur in previous versions of Photoshop using the WinTab API):
  • Pen tilt detection is not working at all
  • When tweaking brush settings (size, pressure sensitivity etc.), Photoshop randomly selects a different brush about 30% of the time
  • Selection tools, like the polygonal lasso or the magic wand, do not register "klicks" with the pen, only drags (where the end position of the drag defines where it it registered). Works fine with a mouse though.
  • "Klicking" with the pen to draw dots does not draw anything at all, similar to the selection tool issue you have to drag the pen a little in order to draw anything
It is really frustrating that the deprecated support for the old WinTab API (which worked completely fine up until this update) is forcing me to use the Windows Ink API, which is still very buggy compared to what we had before.

My setup:
  • Windows 10 Professional, build 1909
  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060, driver version 442.59
  • Photoshop 21.1.1
  • Wacom Cintiq 22HD, driver version 6.3.38-2

Does the usualĀ PSUserConfig override not work anymore?

It technically does, but in Photoshop 21.1, using the WinTab API causes the cursor to select points on the screen that are way off, even outside of the screen itself. When drawing or selecting things with WinTab, you now get zig-zag lines all over the place.

"Pen tilt detection is not working at all" - is this with all brushes? or only with Presets that have this icon:

I have only tried it with regular presets that had been supplied by Adobe in various brush packs over the years. None of them had that icon.

"When tweaking brush settings (size, pressure sensitivity etc.), Photoshop randomly selects a different brush about 30% of the time" - This sounds like it is as designed. As you change sizes, if you change the size to match a different presets brush tip, that preset is selected. Is that what you are seeing? If not, can you post a screen video capture or what you are seeing?

We weren't able to reproduce these two at all on our Cintiq. Any settings that may be different from the default that might be causing this?

None that I am am aware of. I use a software called Lazy Nezumi Pro that modifies tablet inputs and also has a Photoshop plugin, but the issues still occur when I deactivate it.

I have since rolled back to Photoshop 21.0.3 where the issues don't occur so I can't provide a video right away, but I'll try the newly released 21.1.2 tomorrow and see if that version fixes that. If not, I'll record a video.
