Photoshop 2020: Clicking on a smart object no longer offers to rasterize the layer (adding extra steps)

In photoshop cc 2019 and older having a smart object layer selected in the layers panel and clicking on the document area with a tool like the Brush Tool would present a dialog saying the smart object needs to be rasterized and offering an Ok button to do so.

In photoshop 2020 the same just presents a dialog saying the smart object is not directly editable and gives no explanation as to why or how to proceed.

Is that an on purpose change in photoshop 2020?

In one case, if a user wants to paint on the Smart Object of a Frame Layer in 2020 there is no easy way to rasterize said layer like was possible in photoshop cc 2019.

This issue should be fixed in the 21.0.2 update that was released yesterday.
