Photoshop 2020: Crashes and doesn't fully recover

Since updating to 2020, I get at least two crashes every 8 hours of work and it will only recover the oldest loaded document if more than one document was open at the time of the crash. Prior to 2020 I rarely had Photoshop crash and even when working on several documents they were all recovered where I'd left off. Now it recovers the oldest and seems to leave off the last two or three steps prior to the crash. This has been consistent now through a dozen crashes in the past few days since upgrading to 2020 on the new iMac. I am not having this issue on an older MacBook Pro i7 running Catalina by the way. Just the new 5k iMac.

Jeffrey Tranberry mine continually crashes as well, and there is no "submit report' like there used to be. It's just freezing up. I have to Control Alt Delete and force quit the program, so there isn't a crash report. It's freezing 8 times a day!

Freezing is different than a crash. I'll reply to your other thread.

Interesting. Updated when 2020 came out. First time last night I've ever had photoshop freeze and lose a completed file on me. Had a number of files open, layers in all suddenly became empty or transparent (at least on screen), left it for an hour and when I returned it was still there, frozen. I had to force a close and lost a file I had worked on for an hour or two. No option to report the freeze/crash or whatever it was. Disappointing and worrying and hope it is not a sign of things to come.

As of tonight, PS2020 has done this to me twice. PS froze and I had to force-quit. No opportunity to send a report to Adobe. Restarted the Mac, looked for the file in the Open Recent shortcut list.  Not there, but the file is still on the drive, so I open it. Corrupted.  All layers were wiped out, except for a background that looks like Jupiter's atmosphere.   Diligently saving work in progress mattered not. This is maddening.  14 hours lost.

I keep losing custom swatches and custom brushes after Photoshop 2020 crashes. It's like Photoshop goes back in time a week or so each time. Is there a way to get recent swatches or brushes back?

Jeffrey, I've been using Photoshop for professional illustration since 2001. I've never experienced such a buggy version as Photoshop 2020. Random, instant crashes happen about once every two days. Too infrequent to figure out why, but frequent enough to cause problems.

The pen pressure issues are still a problem.
The rotating canvas issue is still a problem.
Photoshop 2020 also cause floating windows to hid the image in the lower right portion of the window until clicked on, making floating windows work difficult.

I cannot state enough, that past versions of Photoshop were not plagued by so many problems. Is Adobe short-staffed at the moment?

I see two crash logs from you for 21.1.2. I've asked the engineers to look at them. Are you still having crashing with 21.1.3? if so can you submit more logs with your email address? This will help me track these downs.

1) There's an update coming out very soon for pressure issues.
2) With the rotation issue, are you documents floating? (not docked in the Application Frame?)
3) There's an update coming out very soon for the issue with windows not updating.

I'm sorry you're having trouble. We're not short staffed. There have been general challenges as most folks are experiencing with the pandemic and current affairs.

Hi Jeffrey, Yes. I've been experiencing crashes with 21.1.3
I usually 'send report' when it happens.

For the work I do (illustrated storyboards), using floating windows is much quicker because I often copy and paste layers from one document at another. The application frame and docking each document is much slower for my workflow.

As the original poster noted: Photoshop 2020 doesn't fully recover after a crash. Recent items, brushes, swatches, all revert to a week or so earlier in time.

"Recent items, brushes, swatches, all revert to a week or so earlier in time." Is Photoshop restarted in the week or so time frame or left open until it fails? Preferences and the state of presets are saved on quit.

Sometimes I leave the application open because I'll have floating windows open while working.

I have found another bug.

Over the past few days using 21.1.3, undo will suddenly stop working, causing me to have to quit the restart the app multiple times.
