Photoshop 2019: Blending issue when trying to convert the black in the design to red

i have imported two different TIF files into photoshop.  I deleted a white background that was in them and tried to convert the remaining black in the design to red.  in doing so, instead of working perfectly like it has in every other version of photoshop, it only changes some of the areas and deletes everything else from the file.

Need more info... Are there any layers? Are the layers pixels or shapes? How do you delete the background? How are you changing the colors?

1 layer. magic eraser clicking on white and hitting delete.  then clicking color swatch and changing to red, then clicking paint bucket tool and click on black (with contiguous unchecked).

Tested on my machine with single layer, no background. Bunch of black boxes in white.
Magic eraser removed white, left black boxes. I did not need to press the delete key.

Changed foreground color to red. Paint bucket with contiguous unchecked filled all black boxes with red.

So I got the result I think you are wanting, but not the bug. Sorry. :/

sorry, magic wand tool, not magic eraser tool.  i dont know if that will make a difference though at i didn't run into the issue with the erasing part, only when i made all the black boxes red.

Hi Doug,

That's not good. Would you please go to Preferences > Performance and check Use Legacy Compositing and then try your edit again and let me know how it goes?

Also, would you please go to Help > System Info and then copy and paste the contents of that window into your reply? Either here or to my email address, which I'll post below.

Thank you,
Hannah

Would it be possible to post the file where the colors are wrong? How are you trying to convert the color from Black to Red?
