I recently updated to the Mac Os Sierra and since then when I try to close and save an image in photoshop to go back to Lightroom I get a message saying
Could not save as “-6K1A7272-Edited in Photoshop.psd” because write access was not granted. I do not know what to do. I have googled the issue, read forums but I still don't understand what I should do to resolve the issue. I never had this problem with previous Systems or versions of Photoshop. In fact everything was working fine up until the point of update. Can someone please help me? I don't know what to do.

This has happened to me on occasion, sometimes even just creating a new folder under a drive I never had issues with before. To fix it all I did was select the folder or drive you are attempting to write to in Finder. Press CTRL & I and then when presented with the information pane about folder/drive then click on sharing and permissions. Chances are it will say the access is read only. Click the lock at the bottom of the info pane, enter your password, then set the access to read and write. That should solve it. So far I have had no issues what so ever with Sierra.
I have checked this and it says I have access to read&write both in lightroom and photoshop
Trying again, for some reason could not sign in? Anyway can you save a file to that location from Finder or is it just Photoshop?
Right so I have managed to find out so far that the problems are my external hard drives. They did not like Sierra at all. So I can go between lightroom and photoshop if I save it to my computer but if I attempt to save it on my external hard drive it all goes wrong. Now that is a bit of a bummer as have tonnes of pictures on different EHD's and they refuse to work. Photoshop does not allow me to save changes. Previous updates have never been a problem. Did not even think this could happen. :(
Are they on a network or USB's?
I use a MacPro with 4 internal hard drives and use EHD's for backup. I haven't used them since Sierra so I just tried and I can save and load from PS to those drives. The file system is Mac OS Extended Journaled on the EHD's.
Sounds like you don't have permission to write to the folder. try saving it to a different folder. If it works, check the folders write permission. Happened to me in windows after updating PS and lightroom.

I am new to IMAC but found the same, cannot save to an external hard drive, I only have the right to read not save and no option to change the rights. but I can save to the Mac itself.

Can you move files to the external hard drive using Finder? The reason I ask is my best guess is that the external hard drive is formatted using the Windows NTFS format, which the macOS can read but not write to.
Hi I am having the same problem. It won't let me check the box for access permissions.
Me too. I open the drive controls on my Passport Ultra and it says read only but after unlocking the drive it does not allow any change to the read permissions selection. All other options are greyed out.
I'm having the same issue with my external hard drive. It started when I upgraded to High Sierra on my iMac. I have been using my external hard drive for the last year with no issues. But now it saws that I only have read-only access so I can't import any of my photos to my external hard drive.
If you Get Info on the drive, what format is it in? If the drive is in NTFS (Windows) format, you will have to erase it with Disk Utility.

As Anna says that she has been using this drive with no issues for the last year, it's unlikely that it's formatted in NTFS.
When you've selected 'Get Info', look at the bottom. That's where your permissions for this drive as shown. If the drive is MacOS formatted, you should also see a checkbox 'Ignore ownership for this volume'. Make sure that this is checked.

Amazingly, somehow it is in NTFS (Windows) format. So bizarre as I've been uploading to this drive from Lightroom on my iMac for over a year without any issues. This problem only started when I upgraded to High Sierra so it must have something to do with this. I'm having to move all of my photos onto another drive (doing this now) so I can reformat this external hard drive. Hopefully this fixes the problem but I'll let you know.

Maybe you had a special driver for NTFS installed? There is one from Paragon software and I believe there was an open source version as well. That could explain it: when you upgraded MacOS X, you needed an upgrade for this driver too (but didn't install it). Upgrade this driver and you won't have to reformat the disk...
