Hi, just installed the trial version of the new Photoshop CC and all my images are opening super dark and with way too much contrast. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?! Thanks very much

Hi Christine,
Screenshots would help. Also, what are you comparing "dark" to, do they open differently in some other program? If so, which one?

It could be your photos do not have a color profile assigned to them.

In Photoshop (on Mac) go to Edit>Color Settings and make sure "ask when opening" is checked for "missing profiles. Send a screenshot of that dialogue as well

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the response.  The photos are opening darker and with more contrast than they are straight out of camera.  I'm sure that it has something to do with color profiles but I can't seem to make it work.  I seemed to have fixed the darkness issue when opening a JPEG but still having the same issue when opening in Camera raw. :(

Ok, so you are talking about RAW files in Camera Raw looking darker than the jpg's out of camera? It's probably not a profile issue then.
It could be one of two things:
- the LCD screen on your camera could be overly bright
or
 - your camera could be applying effects to the JPG creation.

Either way, you should never rely on how the image "looks" on your camera screen; to get an accurate assessment on your exposure, you need to read the histogram. In general, you want all of your values pushed towards the right (brither) side of the histogram without "blowing out" any pixels, and then bring the exposure back down to where you want it in RAW post
