Photos disappearing or shrinking when placed into a new document?

When I reopened Photoshop CC under a new document, I tried to embed a file from my documents.  Either the photo in question would disappear or shrink.  (Though when resizing the image it disappeared altogether).

The photo only seemed to load whenever using Open Document.  I've tried changing the settings but with no avail.  Does anyone have a resolve for this?  I've also reopened and checked for updates but nothing I've tried seems to work.

Kind regards, Beth.

Can you give a bit more detail? A photo would shrink when placed in a new document if that document is significantly larger (in pixels) than the photo.

Howdy Bethany,

You can easily verify if a object was placed in your document as it should now be on its own layer in the Layers panel.  Even if its content is tiny, the layer will have a name.  It's a good way to validate Johan's suggestion (which is what I would've said myself).

Thanks,
David

There would be a new layer, (Layer 1), but the layer in question wouldn't have any photo, just a transparent background. The photos I've used, I've used on the same format before but for some reason they're just not there.

Could you describe step by step, illustrated with screenshots if possible, what you are doing? I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Do you use the 'Place' menu, do you drag & drop?
