Trying to use photomerge to combine 6 photos. I get the message "some images could not be automatically aligned". I tried two photos as well as six. I've tried different sizes as well.

Which application are you using, and which version?

Also, if the images don't have enough overlap, then the alignment won't work (because it can't find where the images align).

A collage is unrelated pictures -- just put them all in the same document and arrange how you please.

But for a panorama: make sure the images overlap 20% or more on each edge, then let photomerge do the work.

You're also mistakenly trying to merge images that are not part of a panorama and don't have any overlap?

Is there a way to actually HELP Photoshop by pre-aligning on some basic level when the auto-align fails (eg. I have images that overlap probably 75% or more each frame)

Having issues where I even have probably 75% overlap in each image...auto alignment fails. Looks like there was an "interactive" photomerge in the past where you could first manually place them...it seems like this would be an appropriate option to help Photoshop's Photomerge when auto-alignment fails...
