Photomerge from Lightroom freezes with >2 images

When attempting to Photomerge from Lightroom to Photoshop, the images get stitched together fine (I can see them all together in the preview), but before I can do anything I get an error code where PS "unexpectedly stops working" and I have to shut it down. Oddly, 2 pictures can be merged together - only at 3 or more do I have this error.

This sounds as if it could be a memory issue. How much RAM do you have in your computer?

8GB, presumably DDR3. It's my work laptop, but it's relatively high-end and newish (2012 or 2013).

What version of Photoshop? How big are the images in pixels? 64-bit system, right? What OS?

Photoshop CC 2014 (64-bit version) - just updated to whatever the newest version is.

RAW files out of the camera are 24mp (Nikon D5300).

Running Windows 7 64-bit, yes.

I can only guess at this point. It could be related to other software that [might] be running. I wonder what would happen if you converted to JPEG. Probably nothing, just a thought. I am about ready to shut down for the night. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you. These things can be terribly frustrating, I know.

Ok, thanks James. I'll give it a try with JPG conversion first, maybe PS simply can't handle the file sizes on my computer.
