Elements: Photo Downloader Causes Duplicates in The Organiser Catalog

The photo downloader seems to sometimes ignore the "don't copy duplicates" settings.

I think that this is caused by adding metadata (Creator and/or Copyright) in the advanced dialog options. I think that the file is changed in a way that stops it being matched with the original the next time the card is used if the photos haven't been deleted,

I'm using PSE 9 on Windows 7.

Hi,
I did have basic metadata ticked - however I've tried unticking this and the problem is still there.

Thanks

I have now upgraded to PSE 10 and have applied the fix recently issued for the incorrect date when naming folders on downloading images. The problem mentioned above still applies.

If you don't delete images from the card after downloading them, they can be downloaded again the next time you download the card.

This only seems to occur if you use the advanced dialog in the photo downloader and add metadata during the import. It seems to happen if you add a Creator and/or a Copyright statement.

If you clear both of those boxes then it correctly detects duplicates, even if you do a file rename during the import.

I have the preference set to copy new files only and I have set the downloader to hide duplicates. I end up with multiple copies with -n added to the name.

After a little more testing, I have found that in the Metadata, under Camera Data (EXIF) there are three dates.

Date Time Original and Date Time Digitised are not affected when you add a Creator's name. The other Date Time is changed to the date and time of the import.

I would suggest that the downloader is perhaps using the wrong date and time when checking for duplicates.

Hi,

Further tests by DW have shown that checking the "Preserve Current Filename in XMP" box will also affect the test for duplicates.

Hi,

When we keep checked "Preserve current File name in xmp" it adds one more entry in file properties. This fails the file to be detected as duplicate. The same apply for meta data application.

Hi,

I am now running on Windows 7 and have PSE 12 - the problem is still there!

I seem to have narrowed it down a bit more.

1) Seems to affect JPGs only
2) Entering something in the Owner or Copyright fields in the Advanced dialog causes the duplicates.
