Photoshop CC 2014 and Intuos 4 pen eraser

In the previous Photoshop CC, I could simply flip the pen over, hover the eraser tip over the tablet, and use the tablet's touch wheel to resize the eraser as desired, BEFORE actually using it.

As of Photoshop CC 2014, I can't. The eraser tool now only appears when the eraser actually touches the tablet surface. And because of this, I can't resize it before using it because once the eraser tip is actually touching the tablet, it considers the eraser in use, and "locks" the size.

I have reinstalled/updated all drivers, reinstalled/updated Photoshop, and have not migrated any settings.

What OS version are you using?
Have you checked with Wacom about this issue?

I'm using Windows 8.1. I looked over some threads on Wacom's site, but haven't seen anything similar yet.

I'm posting this issue in as many relevant sites I know, from here to Wacom to Reddit's Photoshop sub.

Nothing yet, but it's only been a few days since I updated to Photoshop CC 2014, so it might be too soon to tell.

Make sure Ink is enabled in the Microsoft tablet controls.
If that doesn't work, then Wacom will have to get more information to figure out what is going on.

Thanks. I checked that Ink is enabled.

I'm not sure with what the issue lies, only that updating to PS CC 2014 is the only change that's happened between this once working, and now.

I want to add or rephrase some things if it helps anyone understand the problem a little better.

Both the eraser and pen side are recognized as hovering over the tablet.

However, PS doesn't seem to realize exactly which side of the pen is hovering. It thinks that it's the brush up until the moment the eraser actually touches the surface. At that instant, it's the eraser tool, as it should be, but not before, which is where the problem lies.

Before I realized that this was happening, I tried to hover the eraser and resize it with the touch wheel as before. When I placed the eraser down on the tablet, thinking I had resized it as wanted, the eraser cursor was suddenly a different size than what I set. It was only later that I realized this was because it was resizing the brush the entire time instead.

The end result is that while I can still use the eraser just fine, I can't resize it before touching it on the tablet to use it, because PS doesn't seem to register which side of the pen is facing the tablet before it touches.

Having this exact issue. Commenting to bump and see if there's been a solution.

Kyle Ng, if there's been a solution given in your reddit and wacom forums that you've posted on, can you please update on this thread too? Cheers~

I will. So far, there's been nothing other than a few others, yourself included, saying they share this issue.

Oh so there are people who actually use cc 2014 with a wacom pen and don't have this issue at all? That's a bit frustrating. I will also do a bit of asking around and let you know if I find anything.

To let you know my specifics, my computer is windows 8. I just upgraded to cc 2014 and I use a cintiq 21 ux. All drivers for it are new as it's a new computer.

Looks like Wacom is working on it. I sent an email to Wacom about this issue (I also have the same problem) and this was their response:

"Thank you for contacting Wacom Customer Care. We apologize but currently we are investigating an issue between the Professional driver 6.3.8 and Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop CC 2014. We hope to have this issue resolved soon with a new driver release. Once released, any new drivers will be posted here: http://us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers/"
