PS/LR/Bridge: How can I improve performance on my system?

Hi

I am using Photoshop CC, with Bridge CC and the occasional Lightroom CC, and am experiencing slow performance.

I do not believe this is related to CC, nor indeed Photoshop as such, but more to my machine configuration.

I have upgraded the memory to the max 8gB allowed, which helps a little. Unfortunateky I cant upgrade the processor (apparently) without buying a new PC, which I am loathe to do.

I suspect that the main issue I have is with the disk.

It is only 50% full, so I guess a faster disk speed would help.

I am considering adding a SSD drive which would give faster access speeds.
My question is:
If I do, would I be best to use it for my images (even though it would be more full up) or to keep the images on the current disk and use a small SSD for the scratch files?
Is there any way I can test my machine to see what would be best to upgrade to improve perfomance?
Also, I suspect the weakest part of my set up is the graphics card, is it worth upgrading given that I never use 3D stuff?

Thank you for any help you may provide.
