Elements 13: People facial info (From Picasa) not recognized by Organizer

I have a picture that contains people facial tagging using Metadata Working Group's regions structure written by Picasa 3.9. Photoshop Elements 13 Editor is able to read the people faces information when using File Info menu. However, Photoshop Elements 13 Organizer is NOT able to read this information and display facial information for people. I have to go in there an manually add people. Is this a known issue?

Hi Ramin,
Thanks for reporting the issue.

Can you please share a sample image so that I can reproduce this issue at my end?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled How do I import Picasa photos with face recognition into Photoshop Elements?.

Over 100,000 photos to import that all have Picasa face recognition. Would like to use the Photoshop platform without the need to go through all that work again.

Please open the image below in Elements 13 Editor. Bring up FIle Info. Under Schema for MetaWorkingGroup.com (mwg) is where Picasa 3.9 correctly stores the facial information including the person's name and face region structure. Elements Organizer 13 apparently is NOT able to read this info, even though Elements Editor is able to read it from File Info.
Thank you for looking into this issue. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

For reference, I'm also including the screen capture that shows what Elements 13 is able to display in the FIle Info dialog:

Hi Ramin,
Please find my inputs below:
1. As per your snapshot the mentioned info is shown under 'schema (http://metadataworkinggroup.com/schem...)'. I opened the attached image in PSE13 Editor. At my end there is no such category under 'advanced' tab. PFA below snapshot from my machine:

This makes me wonder how you got this profile?

2. As you might be knowing, metadataworkinggroup has defined numerous specifications. Please note that such specifications are the 'recommended' ones. Hence different apps use different specifications to represent the same data. So it seems that Picasa is following the recommended specifications and EO isn't. I shall see if I can raise a feature enhancement for it.

Having said that, I can understand your pain and I will try to come up with a workaround. But before I do that, please let me know how you are able to see this info In PSE Editor (which I am not).

Hello Surendra, thank you once again for looking into this problem.
1. I have no clue why you are not seeing the face structure information in the jpeg header. The only thing I can imagine is that the information is being stripped when I upload the image to this site. If you want I can email the picture to you. Alternatively, you can use latest version of Picasa to tag an image with a person. If you do that, please make sure you set "Store name tags in photos" checkbox under "Name Tags" tab of the Tools | Options dialog.

2. As far as I understand, the Metadata Working Group's specification for region area for people's faces has been around for a while. Picasa has implemented this specification since 2013. I don't understand why Adobe, a genuine member of Metadata Working Group, would not implement this functionality in Elements Organizer 13. Needless to say I will be reluctant to use Organizer if I had to enter ALL people tags over again. I paid for Elements 13, and I expect Elements to respect the valid metadata embedded in my photos.

I would really appreciate any help or workaround to resolve this issue. Again, if you need me to email you the picture I have, or if you need additional information on how to create the face structure metadata using Picasa, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you very much,
Ramin

My file info brings up only a blank screen. Looking forward to the work around me timed above as I have spent a significant amount of time in Picasa with face recognition and was excited when I thought an updated version of Photoshop was touted as more advanced.
Any idea why my File info screen in editor would be blank? In organizer 13 I can view file info/ METADATA but no XMP face data at all

Hi ,

Please do this to get your file info dialogue.-

On Mac -

1)Create a new text file named XMP.cfg (make sure the extension is cfg and not txt).

2) write this text in XMP.cfg

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/

3)You need to copy that file to /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/FlashPlayerTrust (create the directory if not already there

4)Restart the Adobe application and check the File Info panel again.

On windows -

1) Create a new text file named XMP.cfg (make sure the extension is cfg and not txt).

2) The only text that needs to be in that file is as below:

C:\

3) Copy the file to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerTrust
(create the directory if not already there).

4) Restart the Adobe application and check the File Info

I have the same issue - I have many photos with face tags in Picasa, but am unable to get Adobe Elements Organizer 13 to recognize them. Any progress on this?

Two versions later and I have the same issue.  I can see the face tag info in the file, but it's just not showing up in Elements 15.  I have attached a screen grab showing the name data in the file.  I am using the final version of Picasa.
