What has happened to the Pattern Overlay Layer style in Photoshop 2017? With this you could fill a layer with a pattern and use the Scale slider to determine the size of the tiling on the pattern. Why on earth would Adobe retire this?

Like John Maguire said the feature has not been removed.

How are you trying to invoke it –
• Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay
• the »fx«-button in the Layers Panel
• the »fx«-button in the Layer Style dialog

Hi guys

Thanks for the response. I see that I can access it by showing all effects or resetting the effects to the default list with the 'fx' button. I was not aware that the layer styles panel could remove the defaults, the list just showed colour overlay and pattern overlay were gone. This seemed to happen when I upgraded to CC2017.

Glad to see its not gone and glad I asked. Much appreciated.

I had a similar problem when updating PS. I had to go into preferences and reset tools and shortcuts to the defaults. Half of them were missing!
