Lightroom: How do I locate missing files? (and avoid this problem in the future)

l/r/3 has removed the content of all of "my pictures"from my pc. now when i open l/r/3 most photos say ,jpg is off line or missing. i can no longer call photos up by date and 30% of all photos downloaded are simply grayed out or total gray.can i start over by deleting totally and reinstalling by sd card photos. i have a lieca m9 and it is only supported by l/r/3 which at this time is over my head, i've bought the kelby book and the learn by videodisk by gray and aaland which don,t help on these issues.

Hi Dennis, sounds like you probably moved images around on your system with the OS - effectively moving the files behind Lightroom's back. If you do need to move the location of images on your system, use Lightroom to do all the moving/organizing so it can keep track of the changes.
