PHOTOSHOP: Over bright, somewhat pixilated images

For a while now, sometimes when I open am image I'm working on in Photoshop, it appears over bright/saturated.

For example:

The white in this image is usually a grey colour. I've put a black gradient in the corner to give an example of the pixilated/saturated effect that seems to happen. The gradient should be smooth and blend out. However, it comes to a jagged stop. Also the jagged edge moves sometimes on the image.

I've tried updating my graphics driver and what-not, but no luck. Any ideas?
