Lightroom 4: Outgoing email settings do not work

When entering the Outgoing SMTP Server settings in the Email function of LR4 the dialog requires an email address and password with which to authenticate the email account. My ISP's email system (Demon Internet, UK) does not use an email address as the username, it uses a single word hostname. They are telling me that the settings in LR4 do not fully comply with the RFC for SMTP settings. This means that I am unable to use this functionality

No client fully compiles with the RFCs for SMTP mail user agents.

All you can do is try to get close to the common use cases.

You could try setting up a mail proxy (i.e., gmail) and have that forward to your demon account.

i too have this issue. I use a mail forwarder that does not use @domain. and thus I cannot configure LR4 to send email this way....

One of the larger ISPs here in the US (Comcast) also uses this method.

I hope adobe will make this change... there's going to be a lot of unhappy comcast users out there...
