Lightroom CC: Originals not backed up to the cloud after LR Classic import

Hi,

 

I have migrated my catalog to Lightroom CC a few weeks ago. However I still keep using LR Classic. Recently I imported some few hundred images into my catalog in LR Classic. I added them to a Collection that is set to sync. 

 

When I open them in LR CC I can see them however there is a small striped circle next to them which tells me that what I am seeing is just a smart preview but not the original.

 

My question is: How do I get LC Classic to upload the originals to the cloud and not just the smart previews?

Lightroom Classic will never upload originals, just smart previews. If you really want to use both, you will have to import in Lightroom CC, not in Lightroom Classic. It's better to make up your mind and use one of the two however.

Ok understood. So you are saying there is no way I can get the originals into the cloud except re-importing them all in LC CC and then doing all the selections and editing again?

Or would it be possible to move all those images into a new catalog in LR Classic and then migrate that catalog into LR CC. Would that add these images including my edits into the same cloud on the same level as my other cloud images?

What would happen to those smart previews? Would I need to delete them manually?

I don’t know for sure what happens if you migrate another catalog. I guess that should work. Lightroom CC is normally smart enough to understand that an original is the same as a smart preview, and so it should replace it. But you are stretching it, so no guarantees.

Migrating a different catalog to LrCC will work.
