Are you getting any kind of error message when it crashes? Did you move your images to this computer with the catalog? Did you do a backup and restore of your catalog to this new computer or just move the catalog file? If you just moved the catalog file, did you bring all of the support files with it?

I moved the complete catalog folder to new computer. yes, I have bring the images as well to new computer in external hard disk and have reconnected the missing files.
It doesnt give any error message, just the crash dialog. every time, it happens when I am viewing an image in which face detection has taken place but there is no name attached to the faces yet.

In either case, it shouldnt crash. Organizer should tell me what is it that is missing. If there is any file remaining which is not reconnected or any file which I have not moved from previous machine. Crashing is such an annoyance.

You are correct, the Organizer should not crash. However, it is extremely unlikely that something is missing and causing a crash. Usually it's a corrupt file that would cause a crash. I would suggest changing your method of moving your Elements catalog from one computer to another. Instead of simply moving the files, you should backup the catalog (with the images) to the external hard drive and then restore the catalog on the new computer. You may find that this works better. You may find also that the backup doesn't work properly. Possibly because the catalog is damaged in some way already. A simple repair or optimization before backup may make all the difference.

So, is there any workaround for the crash I am observing right now?
I even went to the extent of deleting all the files, about 12k, of them from the catalog and imported the files again from their new locations and organizer still crashes.

I would suggest a new catalog file, rather than removing the entries from the current catalog and then reimporting all of the files. The end results will be the same on the surface, all images reimported. However, the catalog file itself could be the issue, so creating a new one from scratch and then importing your files could be a crucial step.

and then I will have to redo the whole thing of face detections and face recognition and naming the faces inside all the 12k photos??? right? this is what you are suggesting me for Organizer crashing on me? You said, reconnecting of the files could be the reason for crash, now i imported all the pictures again so reconnecting is not an issue anymore.. is there any other step by which i can avoid redoing the whole thing again?

You will have to redo the face detections if you delete all of the files from the catalog and reimport them. That is why I suggest a new catalog. You doing the same amount of work, but you are starting with fresh database. When you remove all the entires in the database, but there is still the database itself that contains any amount of incorrect or corrupt information.

I really wish you understand the pain of having 12k or more photos in catalog, which you tagged very carefully each member of your family and friends, and now have to redo the complete thing. Its easy to say create a new catalog and start all over again, then to actually do it...u know the face recognition workflow? It is not helpful, takes a lot of time.
Anyways, I am out of this thread now. The whole point of writing this thread was to help help in avoiding this complete redo but there doesnt seem any. :(
