I have installed the trial of Photoshop Elements 9 on both my machines and in both cases the Organizer crashes once the catalogue has been built making that part of the package unusable. I will not be buying the package if I cannot find out why.

What do you mean that the application crashes once the catalog has been built? Do you mean after importing images? Are you able to get into the application and change preferences? If you can, try disabling the Auto-Analysis options (Edit>Preferences>Media-Anaysis and uncheck all options).

Hi Thanks for the reply. The organizer crashed after the first scan for images and the thumbnails had been created. Following this, each time the organizer was loaded either directly from its exe file or called from Photoshop (say when 'share' is selected) the program literally opened and then disappeared without error message. The only way I can see the UI long enough to select a menu item is when I delete the catalogue and request a new catalogue.

I will try your suggestion but I am still concerned that this happens on two separate hardware configurations.

I will let you know the outcome of your suggestion but I have my first 8 week old granddaughter staying at the moment so working to 'baby' time (and enjoying it!!)

Regards

Stephen

I've just done a complete uninstall and re-install and deleted the 'My Catalog' I unset the settings as you instructed and eveything was fine until after the message 'The only items in the main window are those you just imported etc.' I closed the box and left well alone for about 4 minutes when boom Organizer just disappeared, again with no error message. Just to be sure I had launched Organizer from Photoshop, accepting the 'Continue withTrial' button.
I hope you can come up with a solution!

What kind of media are you importing into the catalog? It sounds like you are letting Elements import every file on your computer, which may be a bad idea depending on things you have downloaded or files used by other programs. If you are allowing Photoshop Elements to search your entire hard drive for media, I would skip this step and then import just your images and video.

I just imported the 'Picures' folder which includes a few word documents with embedded photos and some short video files taken on digital still cameras. Organizer lists the files it can't handle once the scan is complete.

How do you stop the import? PSE9 organizer is crashing right from the start, I can't get in to change anything...

I have just uninstalled PSE9 and installed PSE10 trial and guess what? Exactly the same thiing happens! I think it is GIMP 2 for me. Adobe I expect more from your software. For an application to crash withut even a reason is not acceptable.

Stephen,

The crash is probably happening in generating thumbnail for a particular file(s). Can you try importing just the pictures - do not import videos?

Kristine,

If you are not able to launch the Organizer at all, please perform following steps to create a new catalog:-

Start PSE to get to the Welcome screen.
Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys and click Organize.
Keep holding down the keys until you see the Catalog window.
Create a new catalog from here.

It looks like there are some particular files which are causing Organizer to crash. Please let me know what file types are being imported here.

Thanks Akshaya

I have just imported one folder with some 250 photos and no videos and Organiser seems stable. I guess I will have to be careful what I import. I still think it would be possible for your programmers to trap errors like this and present some message to the user rather than just bombing out.

I'll give PSE 10 a good workout!

Thanks again
Stephen
