Elements: Organizer Find by Details - Folders criteria

Recent versions of Elements have added the 'Folder Name' criteria in the 'Find by details (metadata) menu.
This is a wonderful addition, especially for people migrating from a folder tree organization to a keyword and category catalog one. Very few users find the option (the last criteria in the dropdown list...); that's a pity.
For instance, if you are using the downloader option to create subfolders based on date, YYYY MM DD for me, it's easy to find all items from a given year and month, or a given day of year, such as Christmas or a Birthday; you get the result very quickly even if your files are on many different subfolders.
The problem is that you can't mix this criteria with any other one (rating, for instance) without having the organizer freezing and having to stop it from the task bar.
The workaround is to use that option alone and to create a temporary keyword which can be used mixed with other criteria.
I would find it logical to move the option to the main 'Find' menu, where there it is not supposed to be mixed with other criteria and where it would be noticed by many more users.
That is, unless it's possible to fix what I do consider as a bug.

Hi Michel,

Just wanted to confirm if you are working on PSE15 or any older version?
This is because, Search has been enhanced in E15 with all the top searching parameters given upfront in the search view.
For more details, please see: https://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/enhanced-search.html

Requesting you to give it a try and let us know your feedback.

Thanks,
Anwesha

Anwesha,
Many thanks for answering this question.
I am on PSE15 (Win 10)
The problem is the same with former versions in the 'Find by Details' view.

The problem does not appear at all in the 'Enhanced search' you are linking to.
I am getting used to that new excellent and intuitive new feature.
It's good for users of touch screens
It's good to create advanced text searches.
It's good to create a library of 'saved searches' (queries or 'smart searches').

In any case, the search speed is excellent even for a very big library and with a single word search which can be a keyword or part of a caption or a note.

With big libraries, I would highly recommend the text search over the 'touchscreen' selection of criteria. If you have some 600 folders and still more keywords, your manual  criteria selection will take minutes while the search itself will take one second...

That said, my remark about the Detailed search still holds... the same search is now stuck for more than half an hour and I'll have to kill the organizer process!

So, congrats for the new advanced search, faster and more intuitive than Lightroom, but don't forget the 'Find by details' search.

Thanks for your kind words Michel. Really glad to hear your feedback on the enhanced search. Would request you to keep using the feature & share your inputs/ queries. On the detailed search part, we picked up the most used options & presented them in the new enhanced search & we do hope that it can serve needs of most of the users. We have taken your feedback & added that to our backlog. Given the other features planned for this cycle, we can't commit if we will be able to squeeze this in but will definitely evaluate it against priorities.

Thanks again & keep using the Photoshop Elements

Thanks very much, Anwesha.
I can't recommend enough the new text search feature in Elements 15.
It's always difficult to change old habits and get acquainted to new ways and interfaces, mainly because a software like the organizer has a very long story; the result is that you have... too many ways to do the same task. That's good to please various profiles of users, but many won't use the best tool for their own needs.
My own profile is of a user acquainted with databases and queries working on serious tagging, stacking and visual searches on a big catalog (more than 1 000 tags). I did not wait for your advice to also take advantage of the new text search.
In this world where everybody is used to Google text search, two features together make the organizer lightning quick: the text search and the text input of keywords. You enter the three first letters of the keyword... and you tag the twenty highlighted thumbnails in one click. I recently cited an example of search where I only typed a single keyword, the operator AND and a part of word in a caption. Result in less than two seconds for a library of more than 60 000 items.
