Photoshop Elements: Organizer stops responding

I recently moved my pictures from C drive to a larger external hard drive.
The result was ok apart from some pictures needed re-connecting.
the re-connection works for a while, but after a few aplications organiser stops responding and has to be closed by the system prompt.
Is this a bug or a Windows problem?

Some queries:

1) What is the approx number of files in Organizer?
2) Did you move all your files to external hard drives?
3) When you launch Organizer, is your external hard drive connected to system?
4) Do you see a red icon on your photos in Organizer?
5) What happens when you let Organizer open for some time? Does it come back?

1) too many to count, Many of the images are JPG and RAW. Is there a counter that I haven't spotted?
2) most, not quite all.
3) yes, (seagate 250 GB)
4)no red icon.
5)I left it for as long as I could, but wanted to process a few more pictures.

I am removing duplicated files as my method for moving from C drive to external might not have been the most efficient.
I went in feet first and was left with thumbnails looking for files on the C drive that had been moved.
I guess I might be working on this for some time, removing duplicates and reorganising.

Regards, Martin.

Please try these steps, they might help:
1) While launching Organizer, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt.
2) A 'Catalog Manager' dialog will open
3) Select you catalog from the list and optimize followed by repair. These processes might take some time.
4) Now, select the catalog and hit 'open'

Thanks Ankur, I thought there would be a method of making separate catalogues but I hadn't worked out how.
I will try your suggestions.
Kind regards,
Martin.

I followed your tips and the programme still freezes, however it seems that updating the thumbnail with ctrl shift U works, I only get the problem with organizer in single photo mode.
Thanks for your help though.
Regards Martin.
