Option to "Never Re-publish" on a publish service in Lightroom

Some web sites will not accept modified images at all. My frustrating instance is Facebook which adds an image to an album again if for some reason it becomes re-published instead of over writing the existing image.

As diligent as I try to be I still sometimes don't notice that there are images marked for republishing. I end up with duplicates in albums and confused friends. Please add an option to "Never Republish" on a publish service.

Hmm - you aren't having a sequence number in the exported filename are you, or something that makes it look like a different image?

Is this Adobe's Facebook plugin or Jeffrey Friedl's, or do they both have the same problem?

So if you need to republish the same image, what do you do? delete the image first?

I'm using Jeffreys plugin which has the same problem. Even though I have unticked every option that would cause a republish it still happens. It's not like it's even possible to select an image marked for republishing and find out what the difference is.

I never republish to Facebook because of how Facebook works I.e. No updating of photos. Deleting and republishing would lose all comments, shares & likes so it's not an option. Flickr, 500px and most other sites allow updates and work perfectly with Lightroom publishing.

I wrote to Jeffery about this issue and he suggested Facebook should really be used via an export type of publishing as that will never cause a republish of an image. However an export doesn't have the same level of sophistication. E.g. Albums and album sets, retrieving comments and the ability to delete (which does work in Facebook)

I know I can manually check before I click the publish button but despite the pain and frustration it causes having to clear up I still manage to forget. I'd just love the option of "never republish" in a publish service unless specifically chosen on an image using a "mark to republish" option. Perhaps there is a plugin somewhere!!!!! Unfortunately Jeffery didn't seem to bothered about it to have a go.

Thanks Paul.

If you are willing to use a plugin, Exportant will keep you from republishing photos on Facebook.

Instructions:
* Insert 'Custom Functions' and 'Main' export filters (post-process actions).
* Choose 'No Republish' preset in 'Main'.
* Tick the 'Custom Export Check' box in 'Custom Functions'.
Save..

That's it!

Cheers,
Rob

Brilliant. Thanks Rob. One question, will it work with my Jeffery FB publish plugin?

Hi Paul, I appreciate the kudos, and yes - it will work with any export or publish plugin.

If you have any plugin-specific problems, or questions - please contact me outside the forum.
