Say I've imported a bunch of images into Lightroom, then I go change the rating or something on an external program like Photo Mechanic. Now when I look at those images, they all have these arrow icons on them asking if I want to Import Settings from Disk or Overwrite Settings.

Now if I select these images here, click the icon on one of the images and select Import Settings from Disk, it won't actually update any settings on any of the photos (ie the rating I wanted them to have) because there are some files (in the middle there) that haven't been modified externally.

So I want either Lightroom to be smarter and just be able to recognise that in a large selection there are some photos that haven't been modified and so not to apply the Import Settings from Disk to them
OR
Be able to sort files by this arrow metadata icon so that I can select just them and then do a batch change.

Just create a smart collection with one line 'Metadata Status' is 'Changed on disk'.
