Lightroom: Open As Photoshop Linked

This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Lightroom: Linked Smart Object Support for Lightroom | Better Photoshop integration/synchronisation

Currently there is no quick way to open a Lightroom DNG in a correctly sized PSD as a linked document (the equivalent to Creating a PSD and choosing FIle > Place Linked.

Please add a File > Open In > Photoshop as Placed File

This would allow the DNG to be managed by Lightroom and have the changes picked up by Photoshop. This would be really useful for lots of workflows where a DNG used in a comp or template might be iterated on once the comp had been started. Breaking the link to Lightroom by opening in PS as a smart object doesn't make any sense in such a case.

Any chance for Open As Linked to be implemented?

It can be done via drag and drop.

Start dragging the image from the grid or film strip in Lightroom. Then hold down opt/alt and drop it in your doc in Photoshop.

I won't call this thread implemented, but it's partially there. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jeff. Looks like i didnt read through the initial request very thoroughly. I'm hoping for a simple Open As Linked from within Ps... paying no attention to Lr. Currently, there's the File/Open as SO, but it'd be really nice if one could File/Open as Linked. Taking that one step further, having the option in ACR to Open as Linked would be great too. Currently, one has to go through several steps to place the raw as linked if using ACR.

Hi Jeff
I would have benefited greatly from your advice above if only I could get it to work. When I try the pointer first turns into a small thumbnail as it should but as soon as I drag it out of LR Classic into PS the pointer turns into a prohibition symbol. It only turns back into the thumbnail if I hover between documetn windows or at the top title label of an open document, however nothing happens when i release the mouse. I've tried in combination with Alt, Ctr. Alt+Ctrl all without success.  I would be grateful for any advice.  I have the latest CC 2019 versions of both programs and work on Windows 10.  (By the way I fully support the above wish for File>Open as Linked Object)
