One concern.... my catalogue

So far I like CC.  Yes, I know features are missing and some people are having issues.  I have no doubt Adobe will address bugs and that CC will eventually become feature rich.
My one major concern is that CC is a complete "buy in". With Classic everything is local, including my catalogue. If at some point a competitor comes along with an amazing product I can switch platforms.  This competitor will (may) be able to read my catalogue,  grab my edits, keywords, collections  etc   A complete conversion would be possible.  With CC I believe my catalogue is in the cloud and hidden. I don't believe we have access to CC's catalogue.   I realize I could make a local copy of my photos and import the photos into a new platform,  but I believe I would lose a lot of information.
Now, I have no plans to leave Adobe, but I am always looking for the next "big thing". I have purchased the update to Luminar 2018.  You can bet I'll be checking out their DAM product...
Maybe this is all silly.  Maybe I should not worry so much.  As I said,  I am happy with CC.  I have great hopes for it.

You do have a local copy of your LrCC catalog, otherwise you couldn't even view your pictures without an internet connection. It's called a 'library' this time. On the Macintosh it's in your Pictures folder, but I believe it's more hidden on a Windows computer. Whether another application could do something useful with it remains to be seen, but Lightroom CC has an option to save an image as 'original + settings'.

There is also an option to always save a local copy of everything on your hard disk so that you always have a copy of the raw files.

My catalogue is also my concern. I already made a mistake and deleted a file accidentally. There is no recycle bin option, it's gone forever and on all devices. I want to suggest this option. Even in Outlook and Gmail this is standard, so why not for Lightroom CC?
