Elements 14: "Save" window is too wide and can't be resized on macOS Sierra 10.12

Updated to Mac OS 10.12 today, but this problem also occurred with the last update a week ago or so. When choosing "Save" or "Save as" in Elements 14, the resulting window is huge, taking up almost the entire screen and hiding everything behind it.The window cannot be resized, only "minimized" by using the yellow button. The green and red ones are grayed out and you can't grab a window corner and resize it. The icons for Default Folder are shoved mostly off the screen to the right.

Hi Paul,

I would like some information from you regarding the issue.

1. Please list down the scenario you are executing while you come to this point.
2. Is it happening only with Save / Save as option or any other dialogs or workflows too?
3. Please provide a screenshot of the resulting window.

Thanks,
Arshla

Thanks for reaching out. The "scenario" is pretty simple. I have Elements 14 open, open a photo (either RAW or JPG), try to save it, and this super-wide menu opens. Same thing if I do "save as."

No other windows I've encountered act like this in Elements. And the problem doesn't occur in other programs I've noticed.

OK, update. I am able to grab the upper right-hand corner of the window and shrink it and that makes it possible to grab the lower left-hand corner and reduce the window to normal size. But this resizing doesn't last beyond the individual "save" operation. The next time I choose "save" the window comes full screen size again.

Paul, have you been able to get the PSE 14 Organizer to open with Sierra? I keep getting a message that I have to close the current image before opening another instance.

thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Can you please attach a screenshot of the message that appears when you try to launch Organizer?
Also can you please confirm if Elements Organizer process is running in Activity Monitor. You can try quitting that process and then try to launch Organizer.

Thanks,
Anwesha

Anwesha,

Appreciate the help! I am wondering if it is something new that Apple is doing with "Photo" in this version of MacOS because there are supposed to be "new features."  I verified that the Organizer process was not running.  Here is the message:

Thanks again for your assistance!

BTW - I purchased my Photoshop 14 through the App Store. Apparently that makes a difference!

Hi Jim,

Apologies for the delay in response.
Regarding this message, I am assuming that you have tried restarting your system. In case not, please try doing so.
Also, is this started happening after updating to MAC 10.12?

Thanks,
Anwesha

Anwesha, restarted a BUNCH of times since I have been trouble shooting a number of issues since the upgrade. Yes it started after I upgraded one of my Macs to Sierra, the other one, on El Capitan, has no issues.

Thanks,

Jim

Did call Apple Support this morning and they were very pleasant. The representative checked with a number of people and verified that if you purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements through the App Store you would not receive a key or serial number. She then called Adobe for me and stayed on the line. They reiterated that they don't provide phone support for Elements and that Chat was the only option (which I tried yesterday). They also insisted that if I didn't have a Serial number or Key they would NOT provide even "Chat Support.) So I am officially at an impasse! If Adobe does issue a "patch" for Sierra I won't be able to get it, unless it is pushed from the App Store, and no one at Adobe will help me resolve the issue because I purchased Photoshop Elements through Apple's App Store (no key or serial number).

From another discussion board it appears the App Store version is slightly different than the "standard Adobe Elements" so even if there are changes to be made to files it still might not work.

Jim,

Can you please try following steps and see if this helps:
  1. Cleaning the folders:
    1. In a Finder window or tab, click Go > Go to Folder.
    2. Type ~/Library/Containers, and click Go.
    3. Search for all folders that contain the word adobe in their names and delete them.
    4. In a Finder window or tab, click Go > Go to Folder.
    5. Type ~/Library/Group Containers, and click Go.
    6. Search for a folder named JQ525L2MZD.pepe.
    7. {Exercise Caution while performing this step} In the folder: JQ525L2MZD.pepe:

      • Do NOT delete folder: JQ525L2MZD.pepe/Application Support/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs.

      • Delete: Other than the folder stated above, delete all other files and folders inside JQ525L2MZD.pepe.

  2. Reinstall the software:
    1. Uninstall your Elements software, and make sure that the app is not available anymore.
    2. Clear the Trash folder on your computer.
    3. Restart your Mac.
    4. Reinstall your app from the Mac App Store.
    5. Start your app.
Thanks,
Anwesha

Anwesha,

Thank you for the update. I worked with Adobe Product Support all day last Wednesday and tried numerous options to make the App Store version under Sierra on the Mac. Unfortunately we were not successful!  We had no problems getting the Adobe version of PSE 14 to work under Sierra. Apparently there are some "subtle differences" between the two versions.

Will look forward to updates!
