For many month now the importation of photo is impossible in Organiser with photo downloader.

Here the story :

The Mac is one of my sister. One day it was no more possible to download the photos in Organiser through the photo downloader. The programme copy the photos on the hard disk, but not insert them in Organiser, to do that she must download the photos a second time from the folder.

The first time that happen she was under Maverick and PSE12. I reisntall PSE 12 without success. I install PSE13 without success, we make the update to Yosemite, nothing change. Have someone an idea what I can do ?

thank in advance for your help

Hi Laurent,
Let me re-iterate you issues:
1. When you use Adobe Photodownloader (APD), media from camera gets copied at hard drive but doesn't get imported to Organizer.
2. You are unable to install/re-install PSE12 or PSE13 on Maverick (10.9) and now you have upgraded to Yosemite (10.10) but still you are unable to install it.
Am I correct in my understanding? Please confirm.

Hi Surendra,

1. Yes that is correct. To insert the photos in organizer, the user must choose insert from a folder.

2. No, PSE 12 was installed on Maverick and the problem appears with this configuration. After a reinstallation of PSE 12 the problem exists always. I make an update from PSE 12 to PSE 13, but with the same problem. Last saturday, I updated the mac from Maverick to Yosemite, but always with the same problem.

You must know that PSE 12 on Maverick go very well on this mac, but I don't know what happens that from one day to another the problem appears, I am not the user on this mac. I have 2 mac with PSE 13 and Yosemite, only one have this problem. I have also a mac with PSE 12 and Yosemite, without problem.

to resume, the problem exists wit the following configuration :

PSE 12 - Maverick
PSE 13 - Maverick
PSE 13 - Yosemite

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi Laurent,
Thanks for the info.
First, lets try to solve the installation issue.
Try to uninstall any PSE version (on all the machines) using recommended way. If the uninstallation is not successful, please follow step #3 from this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite...
(Press clean button only for PSE entries and not 'clean all').
Once this process is done, you can try installing PSE12/13. Please let me know if you face any issues further.

I have exactly the same problem with PSE13 and tried re-installing, but it does not work. I have not seen this issue logged anywhere, so I am not sure why other users do not have the same issue with Yosemite. I am running with the latest versions of all the software.

Because the problem by my sister is not solved, I check sometimes if someone has the same problem. It seems that now 2 people have this problem in the world. I have no solution at the moment for this, I will try to install again the mac, but not at the moment. My sister told me that she can work with this. But for me it is strange that only 2 peoples have this problem. I hope that the people have a reel solution for this problem and can reproduce it. The difficulty is to send a report message, because no problem message appears, only something is not done.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have tried quite a few things:

1. Deleted all the PSE and Photo Downloader preferences.

2. I tried it with another camera that I have and a Card Reader.

3. Ran a repair on my Catalog, although there were no errors. I also tried it with another catalog.

3. Uninstalled and then re-installed PSE 13.

It's as if Adobe's Photo Downloader has somehow become disconnected from PSE13 and can't write to the catalog. I am new to Macs and I have used PCs all my life, so I don't know the Mac environment that well. I have had 2 further thoughts:

1. Is it a permission issue?
2. I renamed my drive Mac drive a little while ago. Does Adobe's Photo Downloader have a reference somewhere to the old drive and therefore is unable to find the catalog?

Hello,

I try the same thing without result.

It is possible to repair the permission with Onyx (an excellent free tool), something I do every month, but without result for this issue.

Concerning the name of the drive, I don't believe that can be an issue, but if it is possible , someone from Adobe must confirm that.

For me the only question is why Adobe's Photo Downloader is unable to create the thumbnails in the Organiser without to create an error message. The copy of the files is done, that means the program has the permission to do this copy.

Hi Laurent,

I think you are right, why is there no error message? I found a log file for Organiser and this is the what is logged whilst trying to import:

[20150103T143013] 939897 (+916907) APD: received import message
[20150103T143017] 943830 (+3933) Begin TagSearch() inside PtFinder::addTagToLens()

[20150103T143017] 943831 (+ 1) reloadNavigatorAndView() initializing for a new Search
[20150103T143017] 943929 (+ 98) App is now ready for input...
[20150103T143017] 943929 (+ 0) End TagSearch() inside PtFinder::addTagToLens()

It looks like Organiser is receiving an import message from APD, but it really doesn't tell us very much. It would be interesting to compare this log with that from another user who does not have this problem.

I try of my Mac where I don't have the problem, here the log :

[20150103T160121] 31565127 (+360589) APD: received import message
[20150103T160122] 31565584 (+ 457) reloadNavigatorAndView() initializing for a new Search
[20150103T160122] 31565865 (+ 281) App is now ready for input...

The difference is that by me the AFD do not search Tag (no begin and end TagSearch). I don't know why we have this difference.

Thanks for doing that. Hopefully someone at Adobe will pick up on our posts. By the way are you running Yosemite?

Hi, Laurent and Dean,
I am not on a Mac, but I am curious to see if it's possible to use the option to import from 'Files and folders' rather than from 'camera or card reader'.
Doing so, I tell the OS to consider the card reader as an external removeable media. At least in Windows, I get an import dialog with a checkbox to 'copy file at import'. That puts a copy of your files on your computer. The other choice if you don't check the copy option is to create small previews and your pictures are considered 'offline' if your card reader is not plugged in.
I don't think it would be a workaround, only a troubleshooting test.

Hi Michel,

I tried this and this works if I remove the SD card and put it into my card reader and use the 'Files and Folders' import option.

However, the camera is not recognised by the Mac as an external device. One has to import via the "Camera or Card Reader...' option first and then use 'Files and Folders' import option.

I think I will adopt this solution of removing the SD card from my camera. This of course doesn't work for my iPhone, but I don't often import pictures from my iPhone.

Hopefully someone from Adobe will take note of these issues.

Thanks,

Dean
