Why is it that Lightroom still does not have any support for Olympus digital slrs? I'd love to have tethered shooting and camera profiles directly in Lightroom. With every new upgrade I think "is this the one where my Olympus E3 is recognised?" The answer is always in the negative. Why are Olympus slr users second-class citizens to Adobe?

Hi Roger,
The Olympus E-3 is a supported camera in terms of raw file format. Are you looking specifically for tethering support? Lens profile support?

Yes - it's tethered shooting (which I can do via a third-party add-in) and lens profiles that I would dearly like to have available.
As I teach Lightroom, it would be a big help if I could demonstrate these features with my camera/lenses.

Roger, when Lightroom 3 started to ship, the most current brands (Canon and Nikon) got top priority for tethering mode, and it was said that more brands would be added step by step.
The tethering mode use modules, and I guess it all depends of the availability of a SDK provided by the camera manufacturers.
Rgds, Gilles.

Hi Roger, maybe we should turn this topic into an Idea/Feature request for tether capture support for Olympus DSLRs?
Also wanted to to point this out if you didn't already know:
You can create your own lens profiles with the Adobe Lens Profile Creator or check to see if a user-contributed profile for your lens is available through the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader.

Doesn't Olympus offer an SDK? I presume it is just a matter of Adobe working to create a "module" for LR3, and Adobe doesn't think there is the user base to justify the cost, which is unfortunate. Tethered capture would be really handy, especially now that Olympus has discontinued their Studio software which did it previously.

So far this request only has 2 votes, which wouldn't really be convincing them otherwise, even if that is what they think. Some extra people voting would likely help with that one!

If the tethering really is module based, maybe Adobe should think about offering an SDK for those modules, so others could create new profiles. Adobe doesn't have to do the full R&D and gains features at the same time and users get what they want.

Tethering is not module (aka Lua) based. Tethering needs to use the camera vendor supplied drivers, plus code in the application interfacing with those drivers. If there are no vendor supplied drivers for tethered shooting, that would kind of prevent the feature.

Chris, thanks for the information. Being that Olympus does (or did) provide their SDK (as there are a couple simple tethering options out there - like Imagecraft's E-Capture), I guess it's just a matter of Adobe doing the integration. Did this ever make it to an official feature request?

If it's here, it's an official feature request... albeit still one with only 3 votes...

It would be a great feature to have Olympus DSLRs tether to Lightroom.
Make that 4 votes now!

Pulitzer Prize Winning Olympus Professionals like Jay Dickman would applaud Adobe for being accommodating towards us Olympus folk :) If there were a way that you could "batch" Camera Raw support developments with Tethered shooting support, we'd be making LightRoom an industry standard for studio photography and more. Please do get this compatibility for Olympus DSLR tethered shooting ASAP :)

When Adobe adds to Lightroom support for tethered capture for Olympus. I have the Olympus OM-D M1, Mark II, I use this camera in my studio and would greatly help me with this option.
