Photoshop Express: Photo thumbnails don't show image preview - just empty boxes

A couple of weeks ago I could no longer see the images in the thumbnails although their boxes are there; at first the images would appear after awhile but only in a limited area. Now they never show up. I can edit any "box" I choose, I just cannot chose which image to edit. So it's like rolling the dice and I'm no gambler! I'm so upset, I love my Photoshop Express, what's happening to me?

The Photoshop Family already helped me pretty much solve the problem of inconsistent uploads to my computer, in fact I was very impressed, I got help like within 24 hours. I SO hope it happens again....

A couple questions that come to mind to help better understand:

- What kind of device are you running Photoshop Express on?
- How much free space do you have on the device, all possible storage locations?
- How many images do you have on the device? Can you view all the same images elsewhere using other apps on the device?

Hmmm...I thought I replied right before my Gmail account was hacked via Facebook but apparently I didn't. I have my old gmail account back now and I found the reply I apparently didn't send so here it is, going on a month later:

OMG I can't believe you answered right back, photoshop is AWESOME! I'm ignorant of much tech but I'll try to answer your questions:

- I have a Samsung Epic 4 Android, 16GB, it's less than a year old
- it says: External SD card, total space 14.73GB, available space 11.04GB
Internal phone storage available space 264MB

I don't know where to look for any other possible locations

- "online" says 5912 photos but "phone" says 8878. It's possible there are 8878 since all the images from my last phone were transferred. I've never got around to downloading to my computer or deleting very much since you can only delete one at a time on the phone and it takes awhile (by "awhile" I mean 4 seconds lol) for the program to reset after deletion. Or is there a way to delete by group? That would be a great help.

-The only other app is Picasa Tool which I don't use because if you can edit on the phone I haven't figured out how to do it.

I tried but I couldn't figure out how to get the phone images into picasa tool. There are some pics in an album named "dropbox" and some other albums and I actually don't know how they got there. I have no idea how to use this app. It's frustrating, am I stupid?

BTW, what does "Show camera photos only in Phone view" mean? It was enabled by default so I just left it.

Since I'm asking questions, here's another: is there a way to make albums on the phone?

I forgot to mention that a few days ago something strange happened, I had photoshop express opened and it started scrolling through the images like crazy and the screen started flashing on and off, I had trouble shutting it down. Other functions seemed to be affected as well. I can't remember if I had to take the battery out, maybe. Once it stopped all was as normal. It hasn't happened again.

Thank you so much for responding to my distress,

Chris

Hey Chris,

Glad you found the email, thanks for all of the information. I don't have that exact same model of phone (I have a HTC Inspire 4G) but I have some ideas and some things to test.

So based on my experience with my Android phone, some applications can run off of the SD card and some have to use the internal storage built into the phone itself. On my phone at least, Photoshop Express has to run off the internal memory of the phone itself. It looked like you have plenty of space on the SD card storage but are starting to get low with internal storage on the phone. Plus it sounds like you have a lot of photos :)

Test 1

If it were me, I would want to transfer the photos off the phone to a computer. To some extent you've already done this when you uploaded them to Photoshop.com, but still I would recommend connecting your phone to a PC/Mac and actually transferring the photos there also. After you successfully transfer them to a computer you could delete them off of the phone itself to free up space. You could probably start with the 5912 that you already have online. You should be able to connect you phone to the computer with a USB cable that was included when you purchased the phone typically.

I would recommend disconnecting the phone and double checking that the photos are still viewable on the computer before deleting them off of the phone itself, just to be safe.

After you transfer all/6000 of them off of the phone you could finish uploading the remaining 3000 to Photoshop.com. If you transfer all of the photos off the phone you could also upload to PS.com from the computer rather than the phone.

Ultimately, the goal here would be to free up space on the phone and upload the remaining 3000 (approx) and then check the online section in Photoshop Express on the phone to see if you get all of the previews

Test 2

The other idea I has was that something became corrupted in the cache for the Photoshop Express app on the phone. I would try Test 1 before trying what I'm suggesting next. What I'm going to describe is based on my phone, so yours might be a little different. I have a Settings section, in here I have a section for Applications, inside of there I have Manage Applications. In there, I have Download, Running, All and On SD Card. If I go into Dowload or All sections I can find Photoshop Express and have options for Clear Data and Clear Cache. If you clear these they will be rebuilt. This might also solve the issue.

You had asked about creating Albums from the phone. For me, I had an option for Creating New Album during the upload process. If I chose the Add to Album button this took me to a screen with a Create New Album button on Photoshop.com in the bottom left. I'm not sure about the weird behavior you described with the scrolling and such. I haven't had that happen to me. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the application or completely powering on/off phone next time it happens.

Hope all this helps, let me know if you have questions...

-Dave
