Odd behavior for pen tool in CS6 Photoshop

Pen tool behaves differently in CS6 photoshop. Click and drag out handles, click and drag handles for a second point, grab path in the middle and drag at right angles to the path. Instead or the handles getting longer or shorter the direction of the handles changes. This is unlike previous versions of Photoshop and I think it is a bug.

Dragging the path itself is not a bug, but a bug fix to a very old problem. There is an option in the tool options bar if you want the old (buggy) behavior.

I'm not sure what you are referring to in the tool bar. I want to drag out handles tangent to the shape I'm tracing, then pull the path out so that the handles are the right length to conform to the curve - just like previous versions. Now, when I pull on the path the handles change direction and that screws up the path on the other side of the points. What do I look for in the toolbar?

In the options bar, the checkbox says "constrain path dragging".

It would be on the direct select and path selection tools, which you activate to drag the path.

Thanks Chris,

That may be the first time I've ever clicked that tool on the tool palette, I've always hit the command button while in the pen tool and the check box doesn't show up from there.
