Photoshop: Why do my Channels disappear?

I literally just worked all day on a file, using both layers and channels. I saved regularly. Then I saved, did a save as and the box that came up wanted me to click on the spot colors tab, so I did. I reopened the original file I had been working on all day and all of the CHANNELS WERE GONE!!!! LUCKILY I DID A SAVE AS SO THE NEW FILE HAD THE CHANNELS!

I find this to be a huge problem with photoshop, because it happens on a regular basis! So many times I will be saving as I go, the file gives no warning that the channels won't be saved at closing, then when I open it again I find all of my time has gone to waste! I know many artists that this has happened to, so it's not just me. I'm a screen print artist and I rely heavily on channels.

Please remedy this feature on your next version of Photoshop. Because the latest Version CS6 is even worse about this issue that CS5. I use CS5 on my home computer, I use CS6 at work.

On CS6 is you scan in a picture and start using channels in that file the channels always go away on reopening the file. When saving there is no warning about the spot channels not being saved. My remedy to that is to open a new file, drag the scan into it, create spot channels THEN SAVE. That will usually work.

Hi Catherine,

What file formats are you saving in?

Are you saving to a file format that doesn't support channels such as EPS?

Are Alpha Channels and Spot Channels checked in the Save/Save As... dialog?
