Lightroom? Not all metadata extracted from .THM files when imported from disk

If I import Canon 7d video files directly from the camera or memory card it shows
Exposure: 1/160 sec at f/2.0
Flash: Did not fire

If I import from the internal hard drive via "Synchronize folder" option it shows...
Exposure: f/2.0
(does not list a Flash field)

Why?

How do you copy from camera/card to hard drive?

I over simplified the scenario and thus my original post may be misleading. Let me elaborate...

- I have several Canon 7d .MOV files already in LR (imported over a year ago in LR3). They were imported from the Compact Flash card via a USB card reader.
- Outside of LR I'm converting them to .MP4 files in the same directory with the same name (just the extension is different, example IMG_1234.MOV and IMG_1234.MP4)
- I use "Sync Folder..." to add the converted .MP4 to the catalog. Because the .MP4 file has the same name as the original .MOV and it's .THM file LR read the metadata from the original .THM file.
- The newly imported .MP4 files does not share the same metadata as the original .MOV in LR (missing some exposure and flash info as per original post).

As a test I have attempted to remove the original .MOV from LR and reimport. I get the same problem, the exposure and flash information is missing. Thus the issue is not due to the different file formats.

To me this means...

A) There is a bug in LR4 preventing the .THM files from being fully read but it worked in LR3 when the videos were original imported.
B) LR is behaving differently when importing from the local drive as opposed to the card reader.
C) Something else

Thoughts?

The metadata from the .THM sidecar files from my Canon 7d are being ignored when I import into LR. The .THM file gets copied to disk alongside the original video as it should but none of the information in it shows up in LR.

However, if I remove the video from LR, then synchronize the folder LR reads the metadata and applies it to the video.

Why does this not happened during the regular import process? I'm pretty sure it used to. I have hundreds of videos from the 7d that I've imported this way in the past and they all (or more until recently?) have the correct metadata.

I'm running LR 4.2 on OS X 10.7.5.
