As a UI designer, it's important to be able to see how folks with ordinary screens will view your content. As Apple no longer sells a MacBook Pro without a retina display, this is getting harder to do. It's of course possible to just downscale your image by 50%, but it's annoying to have to do a destructive action every time you want to preview, then undo it.

A non-retina proof mode would make it really quick and easy to both see and manipulate your document in non-retina cases without having to jump through hoops.
