This can happen if you have ADL or other auto-fix settings enabled in the camera. The raw is shot too dark, which is what LR shows, but the camera will fix the JPG to some degree.

This is quite normal depending on your settings. There are different things involved:
1. Picture Control. If you increased brightness or reduced contrast, your Raw isn't touched
2. Camera profile. Especially profiles Flat and Neutral make the JPEG much brighter. ACR uses the Adobe profile by default, which has little more contrast compared to Nikon's standard profile.
3. ADL!
4. LCD screen brightness. Do not underestimate this factor.

If you're shooting raw and want your images look in camera as close as the would look in LR, turn anything back to its default: no ADL, no profile adjustments, default LCD brightness.

But this doesn't makes sense, if you're planning to develop your images in LR later, because why should your images look like LR defaults, when you change them immediately?

I found the answer - download View NX 2 and the raw images look amazing. I don't know why but my raw images look terrible in Photoshop and in Lightroom - but View NX solved the problem!
