Elements 13 is not allowing me to import RAW files from my new Nikon D5500. I checked & the camera is listed. I've also updated my software. Anyone have any suggestions?

The camera is listed as being supported with ACR 8.8, but there is no updater for Elements 13, only Photoshop CS6 and CC. If ACR 9 is released early enough it may work with PSE13 and that would eventually be the way to go but know one can say when ACR 9 will come out.

The current way forward is to use the DNG Converter 8.8 and create DNGs from your D5500 NEFs, and those DNGs will open in your older ACR 8.7 plug-in. I would keep your NEFs in case an update eventually works with them, but the DNGs are the only thing you can use, at the moment.

The DNG Converter 8.8 is available from the Adobe Updates page:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

It works with a folder of files at a time, not individual files, so when you're selecting things, only single-click on the folder name where your NEFs reside, instead of double-clicking to open the folder and seeing nothing.

ACR 8.8 is available for Elements 13. Depending on your country, the update has been available immediately or with a small delay (the next day for me in France). Using the menu Help/Update should work now.

Thank You! I downloaded the DNG converter & that seems to do the trick. I rechecked updates again this AM & I'm all up to date. Tried to import an NEF file off the 5500 again & still getting the same result. Einstein's definition of insanity was starting to enter the game ...

Elements 13.1 French version for country: France.
Yesterday, the upgrade worked, and I could verify that the 8.8 plugin was installed.
Then, I decided to upgrade my CC(2014) version which worked equally.
Today, new look at the plugins versions: I was back to version 8.71... CC was ok at version 8.8.
Attempts at doing an upgrade from the help menu failed.
I copied the Camera Raw.8bi plugin from the CC folder to the File Formats plugin folder... and now Elements is back to 8.8 and can open the NEF file from Nikon 5500.

My experience is that Help / Updates in PSE doesn't see the update for PSE although it see is for PS. Also running manual updater downloaded from the standard Adobe link doesn't update PSE, only PS.

Here is a screenshot that shows Help / Updates from Elements only gives the update for PS:

Some more information.
When ACR 8.8 was announced, I immediately posted the information in the ElementsVillage forum:
http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums...
As you can see, other users were able to update automatically. Not me, I had to wait one or two days before 8.8 was active from the Help/update command. This is common for the availability of updates in other time zones and countries.
As Adobe has gracefully offered me to play with CC, I was curious to see how the new version looked in Photoshop. No problem.
That was just when I read the answer by the OP that I checked in Elements 13.1... and I found that I was back to version 8.7.1. and this time the Help/update would not work.
I never used AAM for manual updates. As explained in my previous post, I simply copied the new version from CC in the adequate plugin folder.

While I agree you can copy the plug-in file over that is not the same as the software providing an upgrade path, which it doesn't at the moment.

It's possible that both you and I have PS and PSE on our systems and the existence of PS confuses the update-checker and manual-updater into thinking everything is up to date once PS is, but that a system with only Elements might work. I don't have an Elements-only computer to test with.

Did you download the DNG Converter 8.8 or the Camera Raw 8.8 installer?

If you downloaded the DNG Converter, then you can run it and use it to convert a folder of NEFs to DNGs and those DNGs will open in PSE13/ACR 8.7.1.

If you downloaded and ran the Camera Raw installer, then look for a Camera Raw.8bi file on your hard-drive with a date in the last week or so, and that may be the ACR 8.8 plugin. There should also be a Camera Raw.8bi in your Elements folders that has a December (or late November) date that is the ACR 8.7.1 plug-in. If you have both the Dec-dated and Mar-dated Camera Raw.8bi file, then copy the March one over the top of the December one and it may work.
